Nationwide Van Lines quoted me via the phone and online for a move from my home on 12/1 from NC to FL.

They showed up, and packed my home and informed me at that time that the price would be $500.00 more than the quoted price. Unhappy, but they said it was based on having more items to move than expected, so I paid the amount as this seemed to be a logical explanation.

I set at that point a delivery date of 12/5 to my new home in Florida. On the morning of 12/5 no delivery truck shows, I placed a call to Nationwide to see what has happened and to see what can be done about setting a new delivery date... only to find out my stuff was packed and placed in storage in NC!!

I questioned them as to when my personal items would be delivered, and was told that it's first come first serve,.. they have no schedule as to when it will be delivered and I should just sit and wait for them to call me some day in the future. Of course I protested this response only to have them tell me "Hey we did not hold a gun to your head to use us as your packing/delivery company".

So, here I sit with my wife and 16 month old daughter with absolutely nothing but a few changes of clothes each, wondering if we will every see our stuff again.

I would suggest for anyone needing to move, to never use "Nationwide Van Lines".

Unfortunately, the moving company that picked up your things has 30 days to deliver your goods, past the last delivery date stated on your contact (per the FMCSA). There are numerous complaints out there on the internet (Google "Nationwide Van Lines"). You can contact the FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) at www.protectyourmove.gov. Also contact the Better Business Bureau, and Attorney General of NC and FL. Be sure to CC the letter to Nationwide. If you do not receive your things, please contact Move Rescue at (((ROR REDACTED LINK FOR SECURITY PURPOSES))) and they may be able to help you. Unfortunately there's not much more you can do except wait.

Did they not provide you with a specific delivery date as to when your belongings would arrive to the destination? This would seem like an important part of your contract. If a date was not specified in the contract, then you cannot do anything about their wanting to deliver it at their convenience, whenever that may be.

Is there any possibility of you driving to NC with a UHaul to claim your belongings yourself? It's not that far from Florida.
