I do have debts, but I am trying to pay them off. I'm sure a lot of people can relate to the overwhelming feeling of debt! It's a huge burden. Charles Ryder (spelling ?), employee of NCO Financial System, contacted me after I spoke with a couple of call center attendants who were trying to swindle me. I wrote a letter to the company indicating that I would like to settle for the amount that they offered, because I was told over the phone that "it was impossible to get such a low settlement amount because my debt is fairly new." In other words, the offer that was clearly indicated on the letter wasn't good.

This is why I had to write them a letter. Mr. Ryder then contacted me and tried to get the amount through an electronic check. I informed him that I do not bank with anyone, so this wouldn't be possible. He then told me to express mail or UPS the money order by the end of the month (He contacted me on 7/26/06.

I was weary of this offer so I asked for a letter to be faxed saying that they would honor their agreement. My money order was delivered and received on 7/31/06, but Mr. Ryder said that he could only accept it as payment toward the debt and it will not be considered resolved.

He has not answered my phone calls since then, and I am very annoyed.

First of all, I commend you for trying to pay your debts. If more people did this, the NCOs and Boyajians of the world would be out of business. Be very careful of whatever NCO is offering you, especially a lower figure than what you actually owe. NCO is notorious for making low offers and then trying to collect the balance later. "Charles Ryder" is possibly an ex-con making 8 bucks an hour working for NCO, and he's liable to tell you anything in order to get you to pay. If you're truly interested in paying off the debt, talk to a legal professional. If you can't afford a lawyer, a law student or someone similar should be able to help. Good luck.
