I have had a Neopets account since September 2001 under the username "maleficentsnape." According to the Neopets rules, you can have up to 5 accounts. So I created a second account under the user name "christianlady1978." Then my problems began.

The day after I created the second account, it was frozen. According to TNT (The Neopets Team) the username is inappropriate for Neopets. I checked their rules and it says nothing about having religious user names. It does say "material regarding political, social, or religious views or opinions" is not permitted. However, I was not "preaching" or anything of that nature. And I have seen many different religious user names on Neopets that have not been banned.

Examples are "ilovejesus," "god4me," and "baptistgurl13." Since so many other accounts with religious user names were still allowed, I went to my "maleficentsnape" account and put "UNICE christianlady1978!!!!!!!! Het username is NOT inappropriate!!!!!!!!!" in my signature line. Two days later, I received an official warning from TNT. It said...

"You have received an official warning from the Neopets Team for violating the Neopets Terms and Conditions. Do not discuss political or religious views of any kind on NeoPets. Please read our Terms and Conditions for specifics: http://www.neopets.com/terms.phtml If you continue to break the rules, your account will be permanently frozen. To see a list of Neo Rules, please visit http://www.neopets.com/chatrules.phtml. Please do not reply to this NeoMessage."

I did not discuss anything religious with that signature line at all.

Neopets has violated the first amendment rights to freedom of speech and freedom of religion by freezing the account "christianlady1978." I did not try to bring people to Christ, because I knew it was against the rules of the site. But to be banned for just having a religious user name is wrong.

I wish to urge my fellow Christians to realize what Neopets is doing. Delete your Neopets accounts. Boycott Neopets because they are violating your rights.

You Broke The Rules

AUTHOR: Tobi - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, March 04, 2010

Hi, your argument is in valid because within the first few sentences you state that it is blatantly clear in their rules that you are not allowed to create any material having anything to do with religion. Just because you were not "preaching" does not mean that you didn't break their terms of service--which states NO religious material ANYWHERE. You blatantly disobeyed the rules of neopets.com and they took action against it.

They never said anything against Christianity, these rules apply to everyone of every religion and belief. No one should boycott Neopets because you weren't able to obey the rules.

Having a username with religious views clearly breaks their terms and conditions. I suggest next time not trying to push the rules..

Changed since then

AUTHOR: Clara - (Singapore)

POSTED: Tuesday, November 08, 2005

Since then, I think Neopets has changed. I've had some neopets who has named derived from holy words like "sacred", "annoiting" and "exalt", but nothing bad has come to them. And they're already more than two years old.

I had an old account which got frozen for scamming too. And guess what? I was away on holiday and wasn't playing at all!

And besides, the Bible also mentioned that Christians will be persecuted because of JESUS right? So be of good cheer :)

Personally I think it's not worthwhile getting angry and all over a virtual, fake game.

Spreading the word

AUTHOR: Boz - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, July 15, 2004

Hello My Children, This is The Reverend Texino speaking from the chapel of flowers here on the grounds of The Reagan Institute for Stem Cell Research.

As an ordained minister, I often run into these matters where well meaning members of some tribal cult try to take matters of holy mystery in hand as if they knew what they were talking about. I am sure that I echo the sentiments of my fellow clergy all the way up the long ladder and down the short rope when I say, "Please Butt Out Mrs. Jones!" Honestly, how anyone would think the we Metaphysicians would allow the secrets of the universe and creation to fall into the grubby hands of people who put bumper stickers about Jesus Christ on their cars and trucks. Come on lady, this religion thing has been a world beater and civilization buster for well over 2000 years and it has nothing to do with clever sayings and cute names.

Now if you want to play virtual pets, fine. God does not care; however if you want to call yourself "Christ Cakes" or whatever it was, well we ALL have a problem with that. Why do you suppose you have a first name? And what do we call that name? It is your Christian Name. Why? Because God your Father decided that he would allow his folk to be called. My advice? Stick with it. Here is an example you should pay attention to.

A few years ago things in the 'Community' got out of hand with this WWJD bracelet. Now from what I heard when I was last in the Holy Land in 2001 was that God was so angry that he was carrying a soccer ball around and every time he would come across the Boy, he would start bouncing the ball of the Kid's head while saying in a mocking voice " What would Jesus do? What would Jesus do? How about get drunk on wine and send Judas out to change a fifty and end up crucified the next day.-, That's what Jesus would do" over and over.

You see Christ was supposed to mature into this job and get things right here on earth before taking over as the King of Men. Well now he blew it, and will have to come back and do it again but he can't until his deeds are erased from the heart of men or some such thing. Can you see what a mess this is? Well then you should understand why if you insist on being in touch with Jesus version #1 you could at least keep it to your self because the more you act out the longer this second coming is going to take. I can promise you this.

There is absolutely no frigging way that your present soul is getting any closer to salvation than the dirtiest bum on the street. So just try and lead a good life and quit trying to scout up converts. If you can't live with your own strength of faith you have no future with this team. Now give me five laps and hit the showers.
OK This is Texino and yes I am an ordained minister and I know WTF I am talking about. I'll be down the lab it you need me.

Your Constitutional Protection

AUTHOR: Richard - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, July 15, 2004

Your constitutional rights of free speech and religious practice protect you against the government taking away those rights. While I question the wisdom of neopets actions against you, they did not violate your constitutional rights.
