What is the "TechDepot Services Terms and Conditions" about?
When you purchase electronic equipment--like a computer--you need to sign this contract.
When you get home and really read the contract it basically allows Office to snoop into your computer.
Can someone explain just what this is?

Tech Depot services

AUTHOR: sdcassoc - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, August 24, 2012

Basically, Tech Depot services is a two part department.  It includes the in store techs who do hardware repair, and remote techs all over the country who do software repair.  Basically, if you have an issue, say  you get a virus and you have a tech depot virus removal subscription, you would call a phone number and a remote technician would answer the phone and walk you through connecting through a website to allow the technician to remotely control your pc for the duration of the service.  They then can see what is on your screen and control your keyboard and mouse so that they can diagnose the specific issue and fix it.  This amount of control is necessary because many times your antivirus software cant remove all viruses, and many of them require manual removal including registry editing and command prompt commands.  What you signed is basically a terms of services agreement that says that you agree to allow them to perform this service upon your request.  The technicians do not have the ability to remote to your pc at any time unless you specifically connect through the website, and when the service is complete and the ticket is done, automated services remove the link, meaning that if you wish to reconnect to a technician, you would have to go back to the website and reconnect.

This also extends to many of the in store services as well.  If you bring your pc into store for a service and the store techs cannot solve it on their own, they will connect to our remote technicians (they have a higher degree of training) and they will complete the service through the in store internet connection.
