Office Depot I wanted to purchase a HP Lap Top Computer that went on sale today. They said it was sold out. Torrance California

Every week Office Depot prints Ads that go out nation wide and not all the stores have the items immediatly available, yes it is aggrivating. However, that does not always mean that they will not have the item back in within the weekly time period of the ad. Many times I have had customers come in on the last day of a sale and want the hot item of the week and of course I'm out of it they are not the only ones in town that want it.

In every Ad on the bottom of one of the pages is a legal disclaimer, just about every company that publishes a sales ad puts it there. A big long legal disclaimer that could take up a whole page in the ad if only it were a large enough size to read. but they all typically state that there are no rain checks, supplies are limited, and limits per customer or house hold may apply.

I work for Office Depot, and let me explain what you experienced.

January 1 is/was the start of a new quarter. The entire (yes entire) of saleable laptop sku's was changed at the start of the year. What this means is that the old product (old laptops) were switched out with new product (new laptops). As we all know technology is moving very fast. These new laptops feature newer technology and are not outdated. That change of display and items occurred this week as well. So, if there hasn't been time to do so, that's why you did not see them out. As far as not in stock, well, personally my store only received one of each. This is not a scam.. our ad clearly states quantities limited and no rainchecks. That disclaimer has always been there and is nothing new. With the economy the way it is I can tell you right now that's why we didn't receive that many because nobody is buying this stuff. For a company to spend enormous amounts of cash to buy these items and nobody buy them, well that's called a loss and we all know nobody can afford that at the moment. Last year there were issues where stores were stuck sitting on product they could not sell because nobody would buy it. So this is what you are experiencing. As far as staff minimal.. what do you expect, if you ran a business that wasn't profiting as much (due to the economy) would you staff up with all sorts of employees and pay them to stand around and do nothing? I would think not, and if you were a business owner you would look to cut costs where ever possible. This company has stripped a lot back in order to remain profitable and remain in business... It's simple economics, think about it.

Office Depot advertisement does state that the sale item is limited. We can offer rainchecks but it is usually different in each store. There is no ripoff here, you just did not get a laptop.

Where is the rip off here?
