Several days ago I paid my my bill online in the amount of $468.36. Orchard Bank is holding this payment from my available credit. In the two years since acquiring this card, I have never missed a payment nor been late on any payment. In fact this month alone I made payments to my account in the amount of $3181.34.

Their worthless customer service refuse to release the funds to my available credit even though the money was taken out of my checking account several days ago. They claim they can hold funds for up to 14 days until they clear. The funds have cleared my bank. Due to my excellent record of paying, there is no reason for them to hold this from my available credit.

I'm not sure what their reasoning is, but I doubt I will keep this card any longer.

Their customer service is terrible and could care less. One CSR told me today on the phone "What am I supposed to do about it". What a way to keep a customer.

Stay away from Orchard Bank and HSBC.

Followed correct procedure

In response to "calm down", I made my payment via Orchard Bank's website. They withdrew the money from my account on the day I instructed them to. The funds were taken out of my account on that day. The payment was posted to my account the next day. However, it wasn't until eight days later they finally made the credit available to my account.

I spoke to two people who work in their executive offices. They basically told me if I didn't like it to take my business elsewhere. So that's exactly what I did. One lady in the executive office told me "off the record" that they were getting many complaints from customers who are experiencing the same exact situation.

Calm down

First off, I understand you are upset but calm down. If they're holding your funds that long there must have been a problem in the way you submitted your payment or if it wasn't made directly through their website then they technically may still need to verify the funds. Did you use your bank's online banking or their online site?

The reason why I ask is because typically if you use your own bank's site, they will send a check to the company and your bank may withdrawal the funds upon doing so. That doesn't mean Orchard Bank has the funds though. Next time try using their site directly. It takes 2 business days to process a payment and works just great.

Secondly, do you really think a customer service agent will be able to do anything about it? Customer service agents are just the flunkies a company pays to field all the bs complaints made by consumers so that the executives don't have to hear it. They don't process the payments, hell they probably aren't even located in the same time zone as where the payments go. You will never talk to someone in an executive office because that's not what they're paid to do.

As soon as you sound like you're raising your voice, the effort an agent will put in to help you halts. As long as you have proof that they received your payment before your due date there will be no repercussions for you. And since you're planning to close the card anyway, the available credit that results won't matter.

Orchard Bank

After several calls to their executive offices, they still refuse to release my recent payment. It's now been 6 days since they took the money out of my account. I called HSBC Bank (they own Orchard Bank) and was told they have no control over their own bank.

I have also sent at least 2 dozen e-mails to Orchard Bank asking why they are holding my payment. The only response I get is they have a "right" to hold these funds.

I have sent a complaint letter to President Gary Gilmer at Orchard Bank. No response.

What a worthless excuse for a credit card company.
