PC Tools uses automatic renewal where they charge your credit card $29.95 every year like clock work.  This is great if you like and use their software, but it's a real annoyance if you don't.  It must have been in the mice type when I used my credit card to purchase a license for some software for a friend's computer about 2 years ago.  I don't even now if he still uses the software, but I'm tired of paying for it.


You can change the automatic renewal option, but as you can guess they don't make it easy. Here's what they say to do:

How do I cancel my enrolment?

You may cancel your Automatic Renewal enrolment by
  1. Logging into your My Account.
  2. Locate your license details in the My Licenses tab.
  3. Choose to cancel the automatic renewal subscription and follow the on-screen prompts.

Please change your billing status more than 35 days before your subscription expiration date to avoid an automatic charge. 

Click on the My Licenses tab, then click on the license code to bring up the page where you can opt out of this automatic renewal.  Click on the links and endure all the pop-ups telling you that you will have to manually renew if you choose to opt out.  After you have opted out, click on the My License tab again to make sure it says you have to manually renew your product. it should read "auto renewal not set; you will need to manually renew"

Then keep a check on your credit card.  This billing is done by computer program and they have to manually go in and stop it.  This is something that I don't think is a real high priority of theirs.

I have once again requested a refund from these people, I hope I get it.  I'm going to dispute the charge anyway.
