I went to Pearle vision on 1/2/03 to get an eye exam adn glasses. The doc was great! no probelm w/that! Now the "manger" of the glasses side was another storey!
First of all, we were lead to a section og female glasses, she never ask about budget or anything else, she starts pulling off glasses for me to try on, ok fins a pair that is half off since tey are haivng ther ehalf price sale. Rg 190, on sale 95.00, fine. We go to a "service table".

She then offers me the extras. NEVER pricing any but one, she offerd me the "Arc" coating for my lens, she says its half off also and will be 32.50, i turn to my husband and say shoudl i get this, its half off. I have never wore glasses before, only cntacts. HE says yes so we get it. The total was 281.00 SHE SAYS. she encouarges to open a pearle vision charge account, we do since its the 3 mos/6 mo interest free, were apporved for two-thousand dollars.

The 3 mos old is gettign tried ad VERY CRANKY! So we leave to get supper for our other 2 kids( i KNOW having them is NO excuse, butit is hard) As we leave the table she says she will have the itemed repiet for us at pick up,and she will call "the minute they come in.she was not sure if they get a shipment on sats or not so that may take an extra day" ok well we get to thinking, how did it come to 281.00?

So we go back AN HOUR LATER adn try to cancel the order(ESP checkingout walmrts lences, which are SO MUCH cheaper as are contacts! )She says its a no refund, exchange poilcy only. it was posted on the front of the store. we go to the froint of the srtore adn no where on the big wondow is it posted, it is by the cash resgitor in a 3x5 frame!!!!!! we were NEVER told of this poicly adn did NOT see the sign sincewe were never taken NEAR the resgitor!!!

ALSO, my husband is informed that the MANGER 'forgot" to charge us for the eye exam!!! so that was not even included in the 281. well what else can we do. So they call at 845 (mall closes at 9) to tell me my glasses are there. GO to pick them up, see the recpit in thebox, got to looking and i started asking the "new lady" that was helllping us what all the charges werref or, well i guess the "MANGER" jen bradley(who "helped us" the first time, got tried of her coming back there so she comes out when i dispute that the arc coating was supposed to be half off. BOY! FIrst of all she came out w/an ATTITUDE! she SCREAMED at my husband and i IN FORNT OF 2 OTHER coustomers! She called us LIERS in fornt of other coustmers AND employesS! she staed that she never said that! YES SHE DID! we WEre BOTH Sitting hterte then!I turned to my husband to ask if i shoudl get it,have never had glassed before and he said yes its half e by her! I did not get my recpit BEFORE i left (Which was my fault -if ihad not been in such a "frazled state of miond" keeping my kids under control i woudl have probly thought about it)BUT why didnt she go ahead adn give me my repit BEFORE i picked them up????????? But the level of her voice , the tone of her voice, and the embrssement of being called a lier(not only was I, but my husband also) in front of other coutmers and employess was so so so embrassing!!!!!!!!! i wanted the floor to open up adn swaoolw me!!!!

We were so upset we just sat there after a few minutes of being hollerd at. We get up to go,a dn she tells us in the MOST conceding voice to have a nice day. WHAT kind of manger is Jen Bradley?????? I ahve NEVER been treated SO BAD!! BUt now i am stuck w/ glasses that cots 281.00. The frames were 95.00. arc coating was 65.00, plx coatig was 25.00, lenses 71.00 , adn ppp was 25.00 (warrnety?) so now i ahve glasses that the coating is more than th lenses!!!!!!!! uhhhhhhh

I will NEVER EVER step foot in there agin, i will warn others also, adn post this messsage where i can. I will also go to Fort Cambell, i knwo they accept tri care ins now and i am sure they get quite a bit of busssnss form them, I am goign to call tri care adn file a cmplaint w/them about this, and am goigng to turn it in for investgion to fort cambell to see about it being placed on the "black ball" list. I have NEVER felt so DEGREDED in ANY store i have ever been in or worked for!! You could feel the other coustomers embrassmentfor us also! Jen bradley is NO manger!!!!!!!!!!

Anti-Reflective Coating

AUTHOR: Josh - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, April 15, 2009

The reason why such online sites can offer people such low prices on their lenses is because the lenses are a semi-finished (the Rx already ground into them) product to where all they have to do is cut the lenses down to the shape and size of your frame. You can get semi-finished lenses in plastic, poly, with ARC, without ARC, etc. They also probably buy them in bulk, meaning they get them at a bigger discount and can pass the savings onto the customer.

Also, from my years of making eyeglasses, I can assure you that the Anti-Reflective Coating procedure is not just dipping the lenses into a liquid for the coating. It is usually machine process that applies the Anti-Relfective coating in layers, then usually needing a hydrophobic top coating applied to the lenses to help make them easier to clean and take care of. Also, the machine has to be very clean and free of any dust or debris in the air or the process could be ruined and a new set has to be made.

Anti Reflective Coating

AUTHOR: Optigirl - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, February 22, 2009

Most things you purchase from a retail establishment are priced higher than the wholesale, therefore the retail makes a profit. ARC coating does cost less for the optical retail lab than the customer. But ARC is not "dipped in liquid" nor is it a rip off.

Eyeglasses are a medical device, like a hearing aid or even a prothetic leg. If you want to trust your vision to a faceless, non-responsible online retailer, be aware that you get what you pay for.

Antireflective coating price is a rip off...

AUTHOR: Matt - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, January 05, 2009

Antireflective coating cost is a complete ripoff. The treatment costs Pearle Vision only a small fraction of what they charge you!! Pearle charges upward of $65 for this treatement. You can get a complete set of glasses with antireflective coating at zennioptical dot com for less than $54 including shipping! What do you suppose the ARC treatment costs them when they can do it all for that price?

I just went to Pearle about 3 days ago for my exam which was fine, and when it came to buying product, they couldn't order 2 different styles of contacts because their new computer system doesn't allow it, and the eyeglasses were going to cost me $212.00 "AFTER" MY INSURANCE paid $125 toward the frames and the basic cost of lenses.

Really?! $65 to dip my lenses in liquid? I will NEVER throw my money at Pearle Vision again.

Live and learn folks. Luckily I was able to get my pupillary distance measurement from the eyeglass technician. They usually won't give you that, and it's important when ordering glasses online.

#5 UPDATE Employee

It this locations policy

AUTHOR: Tami - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, October 06, 2005

I have been an employee at this location for 4 1/2 years, and ever since I began it has been a no refund policy. It is a franchise location, and once the sale is posted, there are no refunds. It is marked clearly on the receipt that there are no refunds, and when you walk in the store, the sign is on the counter at the front desk. That is still no excuse for the reaction of the Manager. She can be a bit brash, and I do apologize. Her voice does rise louder than normal, but I don't know that I would consider it yelling. Also, I have not known her to ever call a patient a liar, and especially not in front of other customers. Like I said, I've been here 4 1/2 years.

I have pulled the file for the "rip off" sale, and the sale was 50% off FRAMES, not a complete pair. Also, I noticed we tried to call for a couple of days, but to no avail. I don't call customers at 8:45 at night, but if we do call in the evening (not later than 8:00), it is because we were unable to reach you during the day, and we figure you're at home in the evening.

THe AR coat is one of the best options we have, (and it is not more expensive than the lenses; The coat is $65 and, due to the RX of the lenses, they were $96) I have it on my glasses and love it. We here at Pearle Vision strive to keep the patients happy, and have a 30 DAY SATISFACTION GUARANTEE, as well as the PPP (2 year warranty). The satisfaction guarantee says you have 30 days to come back to RESTYLE OR CHANGE your glasses. NOT get a refund. As I said, it's a franchise, and the owner does not give refunds. We have had issues with the refund policy before, and as the judge said, it is our store and we have delivered the goods ordered, so we have fulfilled our bargain.

Our associates always review the sale and tell the customer what was included in the price, so that they may change things as needed. As far as one respondant said about commission driving the sale, the managers DO NOT get commission, therefore she did not force anything to be purchased on the glasses that she didn't feel was beneficial for the patient.

We service lots of military and civilian patients, and have been complimented several times on our service. Don't let one bad apple ruin the basket, please. (For the record, Ms Bradley no longer works here, she resigned for a better position elsewhere.)

As far as Tricare goes, it was not mentioned at the time of the exam that Tricare was the insurance, otherwise we would have billed them for the exam, incurring no extra charge for the patient.

#3 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Th Crooked Old World, 6 months pregnant and fired for petty reasons only 3 days after my benefits kicked in.

AUTHOR: Molly - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, May 23, 2004

Christy -
I am an ex-employee of Pearle who is quite ready to complain about Pearles policies because I am 6 months pregnant and fired for petty reasons only 3 days after my benefits kicked in.

In the associate that you dealt with defense, the company does strongly encourage the promotion of the upgrades you pay for. AR coating is highly stressed in sales. It is a great feature- I have it on my glasses as well (however did the associate bother to mention that it is a terribly sensitive feature as well - that if not cleaned with Pearle's AR cleaning products it will begin to rub off and your glasses will be entirely useless afterwards?)

Also, many employees tack on that PPP (warranty) on your glasses without telling you because it increases their commission - and they get chewed out if you havent sold enough PPP / AR or signed enough people up for the line of credit with pearle. The associate should have also made sure to educate you on the 60 day garuntee. If you dont like anything about your glasses Pearle will remake them (equal or lesser value) for you at no charge.

Polycarbonate lenses are what you have judging from the price with your tricare discount - that is a higher quality lens - 2x more scratch resistant than regular plastic. - but were you informed by the associate that you were getting such great glasses? There is a vision guide booklet at all stations in the store that the associate is supposed to go over with you so you know exactly what you are paying for.

As was said,"you get what you pay for." It's too late to do much about your situation but for oter readers make sure you know what you are paying for when you get your glasses, always ask about refund policies - AND make sure you get a straight answer. Before a sale if a customer asked me "what kind of garuntee do you offer on these glasses?" I would tell them about the 2 year protection plan and the 60 day satisfaction, I would never say "well sorry no refunds." KNOW what your buying cause your money now belongs to Pearle.

In NO way should you put up with the garbage you put up with in the Pearle Vision Center you chose. The employee's response I believe is a true one as I have had nothing but good experiences with this company. I agree that you should do whatever you can to get rid of this manager. If she did it to you she will treat others the same way. Go for it!!!

Your eyes and Pearle Vision Center

AUTHOR: Susan - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, February 06, 2003

There is no excuse for any human being to cruel or condescending to another. However, do not criticize all Pearle Visions. I worked for Pearle Vision Center for over 7 years and they pride themselves on product knowledge training and excellence in the quality of their eyewear. However, it is a HUGE corporation and sometimes people get promoted, who should not.

I know for a fact that customer service is very important to their home office and if you make a complaint about a particular person, they will be investigated and reprimanded. You can locate their offices in, I believe, Dallas Texas.

I do have to say that no one should ever expect a refund on an eyeglass order that has been or is currently in process. They are custom made just for you and if it doesn't work the labs have a credit system to replace the initial order with something that does work. In your case, if the glasses were not processed yet, a refund should have been ok.

As far as pricing goes, you get what you pay for. An average pair of glasses should run about $250 depending on your location. This is one area that you should not concern yourself too much about cost.

You need your eyes to function day to day and need your glasses to last until your next eye exam. People don't think twice about purchasing a coat to keep them warm or shoes and sneakers to keep your feet comfy.

Your glasses not only will help you see clearly, but ultimately become a part of you and your personality. Get what will make you feel good about yourself and make you see the best that you can. The AR (anti-reflective coating) you received is a wonderful option that is available. It is a law in Europe that the ar coating be on all glasses used for driving. It sharpens acuity and helps with glare. Cosmetically it is very flattering.

Don't regret what you spent. I am sure your new glasses look beautiful on you. You should never chince on the necessities of life. However, do NOT stand for the way you've been treated. State your peace, contact the local paper, etc. The more complaints P.V.C. receives the sooner this miserable excuse for a manager will be out of a job that she apparently does not enjoy.
