Peoplefinders.com is not as reliable or cooperative as they say. Does anybody have any information on this entity, or can offer suggestions to assist with removing WRONG information?

Here are the events that brought me to Peoplefinders.com:

On my credit reports from all 3credit reporting agencies, a bankruptcy appeared (wasn't there in 2004), with a filing date of 06/1997. I freaked.

I contacted the US Federal Bankruptcy Court Clerk,I've contacted every Prothonotarys' offices in the tri-county in my area, and the PA Bar Assoc. Was told that they have no record of the bankruptcy listed on my credit reports, nor are there any court documents with my name on it. The PA Bar Assoc. has no record of the attorney, listed on the bankruptcy,in Pennsylvania (since 1990). Ok, I'm worried.

A friend told me to check Peoplefinders.com to see if they have this bankruptcy listed. I read the FAQs, before investing any money. Here are my two favorite answers from the FAQs:

(1) Our web site only collects personally identifiable information with your consent. By registering to use our web site, you will be asked for your name, address, and other similar information. We will not share this information with any affiliate or third party company.

(2) We value your privacy and, upon request, can block your records from being shown in many, but not all, of our search results. To do so, you should contact us by writing a letter giving us your: Complete social security number (SORRY, NOBODY GETS MY SS#!!), first name, Last name, Middle initial, Aliases and A.K.A.'s, Complete current address, Complete former addresses going back 20 years, Date of Birth - including month, day, and year

It is also very helpful to include a print out of the records that you wish to have suppressed.

Send this letter to:
Opt-Out/Peoplefinders.com
1821 Q Street
Sacramento, CA 95814
This information will be kept confidential and is used to ensure complete suppression of your records.

I spent the $9.95, did an alpha search, and up pops this bankruptcy! I followed Peoplefinders.com instructions (referenced above) to have this bankruptcy removed.

Within a week I got a phone call from a Peoplefinders.com customer service rep (very polite). I explain that this is not my information, etc. The rep informed me that I would need a document written by a US Federal Court judge to force/make Peoplefinders.com remove this bankruptcy. Huh?

I questioned where they obtained this information. The Peoplefinders.com rep advised that they get public records from the courts. Sorry, I already checked with the Prothonatarys' offices in several county courts and the US Federal Bankruptcy Court Clerk, and they do not have any record of this bankruptcy. The rep had no adequate response. End of conversation.

Not only did I pay to locate incorrect information about myself (a court document!), I cannot get it removed without jumping through hoops.

How do I get rid of this bankruptcy listed on Peoplefinders.com (without getting a letter from a US FC judge)?

For those who use Peoplefinders.com or any other public record search, should remember that the information they paid big $$$ to obtain, may not be accurate. LET THE BUYER BEWARE!

you added the part about the "full social security number" into the response. SSN are not even entered into public records. They only ask for the information already on the site in order to take it off. They are a third party distributor of infomration found in public records, and taking information off of their WEBSITE does not affect your records that are held at the courthouse, vital records, or recorders office.

It would make sense to say that if you need to change a legal document, you need to go to a legal source. Websites like these simply show you the information on file, they don't compose it, compile it, nor can they change it.

Traci..I'm a bit confused...after seeing a bankruptcy on your credit reports why did you go to peoplefinders? You can dispute those bankruptcies and have them removed yourself. And anyone who is checking into your credit isn't going to go to "peoplefinders" they will simply pull your credit reports. If you need to know how to do this just ask and we(people who read ripoff report) will be glad to help.
