Complaint Review: Progressive Insurance - Internet
Progressive Insurance , Progressive Homesite Nightmare Customer Service, Shady Business Practices Internet
I had grown disgusted of dealing with Geico for over 10 years, and decided to swich to Progressive. I had auto and renters insurance, and then purchased my first home, getting homeowners insurance with Progressive. The quote I received was not what I ended up getting for homeowners insurance. The amount went up, with absolutely no explanation. My mortgage company questioned it, and Progressive could not explain the amount, or why I was being billed for an additional amount after closing on my house. In contacting customer service, I was told by the first person I spoke with that it was an IT glitch, and would be corrected.
A month later, and still not having it corrected, I called again. I was told by a second person that the first person I spoke to "dropped the ball" and it was an IT issue, and would be corrected. This second person said he would find out what happened, and would call me back. This did not happen. I called a third time, yet another customer service rep had no answer for me, and could not explain either the amount "owed" after the policy had been paid in full, nor the reason why my issue had not been addressed after (now) two months. At that point I asked to speak to a supervisor on duty. There was not one.
I called again, a fourth time, this time at night after work. I was in tears at this point. Finally, I got a customer service rep who took action. She made a note that the amount had been paid in full, and sent me an email confirmation. That problem was solved. The other problem happened when I tried to access my homeowners policy online. I had cancelled my renters insurance (because I no longer needed it, and I moved) when I purchased my homeowners insurance. When I called to ask why I could not log into my homeowners policy, I was told that I could not access it because I had cancelled the renters insurance!!! I said this was unacceptable.
At this point I felt stuck, because my homeowners policy had already been paid for the year, and I figured it would be a nightmare to change it mid-year. I decided to start shopping around with local businesses, and dump Progressive when the renewal came up in January. I found different companies I liked, signed up for new auto and homeowners policies beginning in January, and called Progressive to cancel my policies effective January. I cannot express the rudeness I encountered when I cancelled these policies. When I responded to the question "why are you cancelling?" with the truth about my experience, they kept prolonging the conversation. I began interrupting, saying "I'm done talking about what your company did wrong, I need to cancel the policy" and they got rude.
Then, it got worse with cancelling the auto policy. The guy on the phone, when I explained that I had just cancelled the homeowners policy and I was now cancelling my auto policy, said "fine, its done. You'll get an email" and hung up. This morning, I got the final bill for the small balance left on the auto, and it stated that the amount was due on 12/26/13. When I went online to pay it, it stated "amount past due." This is completely incorrect, and fraudulent. Stay away from this company. It has been the worst experience with an insurance company I have ever had.
