Radio Shack ripped me off... I purchased among other items, a cell phone cover priced on sale at 19.99 The sales person offered me a 1.99 warranty which would allow me to return it for any reason within a years time if it was defective, if i didn't like it any longer, etc. etc. I feel for it hook line and sinker... When I returned to the store in Laguna Niguel, without the box or faded receipt, I was told they could not locate the purchase on their computer records.

The salesman asked me if I purchased a few other items (like I remember everything i ever bought with the cryptic description they give). After being put through the paces to remember, I was told I would have to return the item, wait for an email from the warranty company, and print off the coupon I would receive in a few days, then go back in to receive a gift card, and use the gift card if I wanted.

How the heck does that work when I would be without a phone cover until I can make another trip back to purchase another one that might cost more than the one I need to return? Furthermore, the store manager would not be available to talk to for two more days. So I left with the same cover only to return since it stretched out in more than thirty days ( which is the return policy of the store) .

This is just unacceptable. I cannot return it with or without the box or receipt, regardless of having the warranty. What good is the warranty if i have to wait until I'm emailed the proper coupon? Wait an inefficient use of my time and resources. They are not taking responsibility for their products is basically what that says to me.  Selling me a warranty makes them money, most will not wait for the coupon, which allows them to make and extra 2 bucks on a 20 dollar item. Scam Scam Scam!!!!!! I would like my 19.99 back and the 2 dollar warranty price just for the inconvenience.

Warranty explained clearly

Hello I currently work for radioshack. I read your report and I can understand your frustration. I do not like the company and its methods. But I still work for them part time.

The warranty for example on your cell phone for $1.99 is 1 year warranty. It's not a bad price to cover $20 item. You will mostly likely get tired of the cover within that time period or get another phone. This is where the warranty comes in handy. You don't have to buy the same cover. You can use the refunded store credit on anything else in the store.

How the process works is that when customer comes to claim the warranty we have to take the item and ship it to the warehouse where is will be inspected for defects.

Then they issue the customer a gift card for the total amount paid for the item including tax excluding the warranty via mailing it to your house or email. I usually recommend email because its the fastest way to get the gift card. By the way it's not a coupon.

As far as time frame for the process, lets say you claimed your item Monday and the store shipped your defective item the same day and you chose to recieve the gift card via email. You will most likely get the Gift card by Friday. I am speaking from experiences as I claimed many cell covers under warranty. The process time also depends on the store and its employees.

If you can't wait then you can purchase another cover so you have one and once you get the gift card bring back receipt and card to get reimbursed.

I am not a big warranty guy and I myself would not purchase one but I have to RadioShack does offer good warranty. However they do offer some horrible warranty prices like $2.99 warranty on $5.99 items.

Hope this helps
