This company called my place of work today and left a message for me. When I called them back they would not tell me who they were or what they wanted. When I pressed them for the name of the company I was hung up on. Not once but 6 times as I was determined to find out what and who they were. Finally, I got them to tell me the name of the company and they acknowledged who they were "Regional Adjustment Bureau". Normally, a name would describe somewhat what they do but this one with the name "bureau" implies something of a federal agency in my mind. When asked what they did I would be hung up on...just simply dead air. How rude is that!  so I called back about another 6 times and finally got someone to talk to me but would still not tell me what kind of company they were or what they wanted until I gave them my social security number which I absolutely refused to do since she would not tell me what they wanted and of course, you got it hung up on me again. So, the reason I am writing this is because they are a "collection company" and they are required to let people know that is what they do and why they are calling. This company is operating in my personal opinion on a trickery and deceipt atmosphere. I recommend not giving anyone your SSI number until they tell you what the heck the want AND why they are calling. I mean really! just give us your name and social security number first and then we will tell you why we are calling you........I dont think so! Even if this is a legitimate collection company they should review their collection practices and current laws and give people a bit more courtesy and respect....after all, I was the one who called them back!

I totally agree with the report and faced similiar issues when I tried to find out what the company does. It took only five (5) calls to get an answer as to what does the company do. I would get "This is Regioonal Adjustment Bureau" and when asked what does Regional Adjustment Bureau do they would tell me it was of personal business matters and would not tell me, even the supervvisors couldn't tell me what the business does. I mean if you called any company out there they would tell you what the business was all about, if they were real. But this company has a problem telling you what they do. In the five phone calls I talked to at least two people each time and nobody would tell me. The last time I called I looked up the "non toll free number" an still had to talk to two different people in order to get an answer to "What does Regional Business Bureau do?" and then I am done. To top it all off they tell me that the 'person' they are trying to reach has given my number to them as a reference and when they found out the relation of that person to me then they wanted me to give them that persons contact information. Can we say I don't think so because I don't even know you and if it was legitimate then you would already have that persons primary contact. Oh, I did receive two calls, two (2) minutes apart from the exact same person and she claimed she called another number, that has been shut down for a few months, instead of calling my number. This company needs to stop harrassing people!

They are required by Federal Law not to disclose the exact reason for the call until they are sure you are the debtor. By verying you ssn (only the last four numbers), current or previous address, and/or date of birth. Anyone could have called and claimed to be you or have the same name.

When you called you could have simply said I do not want to give that information. Can you not pull it up by name or phone number?  As far as you claiming they hung up on you, I agree that is not professional. So on behalf of RAB, I apologize.
