We ordered and payed on line for two car rentals each for two weeks. We paid $639.00 US for each car up front which we believed included car insurance. On arrival we had to pay approximately $1140 in addition for insurance. We were told that our Visa or any other insurance we might have was not valid.

Later reading the miniscule type font it stated had we had a statement from a bank, Visa, or other showing we had insurance we would not need additional insurance. In comparison, after my sons picked up the cars having paid the huge extra cost I went to a local car rental, Economy Cars in San Jose, I was given a total price of $1140.00 US for two weeks for a similar car.

Then despite having paid the high insurance rate they refused to refund the $500.00 US insurance deposit saying we had not notified them of an incident which caused very minor damage to a rear light. No where in the contract nor when picking up the cars was it stated that this was a requirement. The people in the rental office got hostile and said that they would call the police if my son protested the excessive charges and the refusal to return the deposit.

Response to comment suggesting we had not read the contract prior to renting.

Surprisingly hostile comment which obviously did not take into consideration the facts of the rental. The contract was not presented on the website when the rental was made because it was done through a third party agency. It was only presented at the time of pick up and in a printed mode very difficult to read. Moreover, a large amount had already been paid and would have been lost if we went to another rental agency. I have been renting cars for over fifty years and have never experienced such bad business practices by a rental company. The insurance fees were excessive and unnecessary as our VISA and our personal car insurance policy would have provided the necessary coverage. Visa has taken up the case and will seek compensation.

What you've come here to cry, whine and stomp your feet to admit you didn't have the COMMON SENSE to READ what you were agreeing to BEFORE you agreed to it. NOTHING was hidden . Now you come here to blame them when the problem WAS YOU. Anybody with COMMON SENSE reads the terms of a contract BEFORE agreeing to those terms. ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS AND INCREDIBLE.
