I have been with this company since Scott Alarm went out of buiness. That has been about six years, now I am selling my house and moving out of state. I called a few months ago to get information about transferring and/or cancelling the service. I was infromed I have to send thema letter stating when I would be moving and I told them the house is on the market and when I sell, I will let them know.
They told me my contract was due to renew again in January. I asked how did it renew, since I had already fullfilled my prior time contract. The salesman told me when that contarct was up, I could cancell at anytime without owing anything. The women informed me it renews automatically without even notifing me. Is this even legal?
I sent them a letter stateing not to renew my contract. I now have a closing date on my house and they say I have to pay them until January the monthly fee, unless the new owner signs a contract with them.
I talked with a woman named Kerrie who was extremly rude on the phone and kept interuping me as I was talking. I ask her several times to let me talk and to stop interupting me. I gave her tinme to talk, please give me the same courtisy. She informed me I owed 70 some dollars to fullfill my contract, since I had just sent in a payment for September. I told her I did not feel I owed her company anything and she told me she did not care how I felt, I owed the money to fulfill this automatically renewing contract that never informs anyone this is happening. I told her I would recommend SafeTouch to the new owner if she would drop these ridiculous charges.
I got my bill in for 70 some dollars and called to talk to Kerrie about this. She would not come to the phone and I was informed by the lady I talked with that this matter was out of her hands and that Kerrie had determined this is what I owed. I got really ticked and yelled, which is not normal for me, but this company has the worst customer care group I ahve ever delt with in my life. They are rude on the phone and very short with the customer.
I should have known this was poor compnay when I had some trouble with the slaesman to start with when I had to switch when Scott Alarm went out of business.
I would never recommend this company to anyone!!
Beware of their so called auto renewable contract which they never explain when you sign on with them. Thankfully, I only had a few months left with this piece of c*** company.

Look over your contract again

Check out the contract you signed and forget what the salesman said. Alot of alarm companies have an automatic renewal clause in there somewhere. Example I had an alarm provided by another company and signed a 3 year contract. In small print after that there is a statement that the contract renews on a yearly basis after that on the anniversary date.
If you haven't already cancelled review that contract. Also you should also advise the realtor to add the security system as a plus and see if the contract is transferable to the buyers of your house. That is another way out of it if you can swing that.
They new owners can keep the contract til the end of the renewal date and cancel service if they want.
Thanks
