I had my Shasta pool built 4 years ago with a quikchlor and it has been an endless maintenance nightmare. I soak the cell in muriatic acid 20 mins about every month (or sometimes more with the 'Clean cell or Lo Salt' digital display appearing so often). I've had the salt checked on numerous occasions and it always is spot on or even a little bit high.
It would have never occurred to me that an "amps and voltage" test should be performed on this cell. No manufacturer instructions or directions from Shasta I received indicated this could be a problem. So, really, should I have to pay the Shasta service charge to have them check this?
About two years ago the quikchlor cartridge exploded and I put in a call to Shasta service. Of course the guy told me I was not cleaning the cell enough (see my first paragraph above!)
Now the wire ends that connect to the cell are corroded and appear to no longer work. Another call to Shasta tomorrow.
I'm not getting this concept that a product that proves to be so unreliable with the hardwater and environment in Phoenix is allowed to be sold here. There are numerous products out there incapable of withstanding regional conditions, and they are not available in those locations. Avoid this product at all costs!
