My wallet was stolen and I did not find out until the following morning. I called all my credit cards and the police right away. I cancled all cards right away and ordered new ones. As I slept peacefully the night before, some lowlife used my Suntrust bank card at 11 diffrent gas stations in two different counties here in South Florida.

Since this happened over the weekend, I had to wait until Monday morning to fax in a claim to get my funds back. The bank refunded all overdraft fees and returned my money the next day. After a few weeks that sent me a letter letting me know that all was ok and that the refund was permanent.

After another month or so I made an error and bounced one check. I got a direct deposit the next day so the fee was taken care of and the account was back positive. I went to the gas station and could not use my bank card. I called customer service and they said they could not talk to me and I had to go in to a branch.

When I went into the branch they informed me that they turned off my card since I had bounced a check. I asked why since I had been with them for over a year and had only made this one mistake. The lady at the branch informed me because I had over ten bounced checks in the past year. I reminded her that I personally had only bounced one and the rest were done by theives and that the bank had refunded all of those fees. She said that it did not matter that someone had committed credit card fraud with my bank card...her words were, "the account should never be negative regarless if someone steals your card or not" WTF?

I then asked her why I had to come into the branch to get my card back on instead of speaking to a customer service representative over the phone and she stated because they have a fraud alert on my account. So...I can't even talk to my own bank I have to go in person. Luckily, I have two bank accounts and now I barely use this account. I am thinking about just closing it for good. Suntrust has to be the worst bank ever...

Stolen Card Was Closed

AUTHOR: Ms. Pissed Off - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 12, 2008

The card that was originally stolen in my case was closed and a brand new card and account number was issued so how could the bank think this was the theif attempting to open back up the account? Why would they close my entire account over one bounced check? This still makes no sense to me...since I was at a gas station to fill up before going to work that morning, I had to wait for two hours until the bank opened up to go in and have my card reactivated.

Possible scenario...

The card doesn't work, person calls in and complains, card is reactivated, person uses card. All is good except the person happens to be the one with your stolen card. Since your card was stolen and there were fraudulant uses of the card, your account will be flagged and ant similar use of the card may trigger the restriction. You have to go into the bank to prove that it is you wanting the card reactivated and not the thief trying to use your card some more.
