I switched my service from Verizon to T-Mobile in December of 2007.
For work purposes I need to forward all calls from my personal cell phone to my work cell phone. Doing this in T-Mobile would not pass the caller ID of the originating caller to my work phone, showing only that my personal phone was calling me.
Obviously this made it very difficult to call someone back when a call was missed, and I immediatley call T-Mobile customer service who put me in contact with a networking person to troubleshoot the issue. Over the next month I worked with them to try to resolve the issue. They would call my phone and instruct me not to answer so they could trace the call routing.
The conclusion was that it was related to the phone and there would be a software update to reslove the issue.
I waited 6 more months, no update was released.
I switched back to Verizon to get these calls, and with Verizon the call forwading worked perfectly.
T-Mobile is trying to charge me a $200 early termination fee, which is true I did end the contract early, however their equipement and services I agreed to (call forwarding) never worked the entire time of the service. How long was I supposed to wait for this service to work properly?
I do not think the ETF in this case was a fair charge.

#1 UPDATE Employee
Response to the early termination fee
AUTHOR: Carolie - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Wednesday, November 12, 2008
Dear person(s) of concern,
I am currently a T-mobile employee, I have been with the company for better than a year now. I know that with certain situations that early termination fees may be waived, but in the case in point - because we could not resolve your issue with the caller id (which by the way, unfortunately, is subsiquently run by the landline carriers in your area) - the early termination fee cannot be waived. I truly belive that this is an exceptional case for you, however, unforturnately, the early termination fee that is underlined in the contract you signed with t-mobile (Section 3) - (These are things that people may over look and not really know what they are reading when they sign up for service with t-mobile. I cannot stress enough, you must read your contract before signing up with the service. I can stress though, that unlike the other carriers out there, that our contract terms and conditions are alot more lienent than that of other carriers. I kind of lead this to an explaination of insurance - would you buy life insurance if you didn't know what the policy was going to give you? I think not.. If you need to, get an attorney to read it for you, but please, read all the terms and conditions of any contract. Once you sign, you're in!)
clearly states -
3. * Your Term of Service and Termination Fees. You agree to maintain Service with us for your minimum term (Term). (Periods of suspension of Service do not count toward your Term.) After your Term, you will become a month-to-month customer. EXCEPT FOR MONTH-TO-MONTH CUSTOMERS, AN EARLY TERMINATION FEE WILL APPLY IF YOU CHOOSE TO END YOUR SERVICE BEFORE THE END OF YOUR TERM, OR IF WE TERMINATE IT EARLY. FOR SERVICE ACTIVATED, OR ACCEPTANCE OF A NEW ONE OR TWO YEAR TERM, ON OR AFTER 06/28/08, THE EARLY TERMINATION FEE IS: $200 IF YOU TERMINATE WITH MORE THAN 180 DAYS REMAINING ON YOUR TERM; $100 IF YOU TERMINATE WITH 91 TO 180 DAYS REMAINING ON YOUR TERM; $50 IF YOU TERMINATE WITH 31 TO 91 DAYS REMAINING ON YOUR TERM; AND THE LESSER OF $50 OR YOUR MONTHLY RECURRING CHARGES (including any applicable taxes and fees) IF YOU TERMINATE IN THE LAST 30 DAYS OF YOUR TERM. The Early Termination Fee is part of our rates and is not a penalty. The Early Termination Fee applies only to the extent permitted by law. Unless you request otherwise, your termination will be effective at the end of your current billing cycle. You will remain responsible for all fees and charges for your Service and usage through termination. If you bought your wireless Device from an independent T-Mobile dealer or other third-party vendor, they may charge a separate termination fee.
These are things that people may over look and not really know what they are reading when they sign up for service with t-mobile. I cannot stress enough, you must read your contract before signing up with the service. I can stress though, that unlike the other carriers out there, that our contract terms and conditions are alot more lienent than that of other carriers.
