I had left one cell company due to poor service. What used to be nationwide coverage had become excuses of "there's a tower down." Yeah, seemed like everywhere I went (I was an over-the-road truck driver), from New York to LA, towers down EVERYWHERE!! So I had left that company and went with T-Mobile.
I was offered a great plan, with this seemingly "great" phone. At least the phone was advertised as "great." It was their own T-Mobile Comet. It was offered free with a 2-year agreement. Having had prior experience with T-Mobile, I jumped on it. I've always had good service with their prepaid, so I felt confident getting a contract with them.
So I get the little phone, and it worked pretty good for about 2-1/2 months. Then I would go to use it, and it would say "Emergency Calls Only" and I couldn't make any calls, send texts, or use the internet. The SIM card was tested in another known working (albeit much older) phone, and worked flawlessly. Went through all of the diagnostic stuff, removed the battery and SIM card master reset, etc. So they sent me a new one.
Within 3 weeks, same issue. So they send me yet another one. Less than 24 hours out of the box, same problem. So it was master reset under the advice of tech support, and worked for about 1 week. Same issues, along with the charging port being loose and the touch screen not working at all at times. Being as that I was out on the road and not due home for another three weeks, sending me another one wasn't an option right away because I wouldn't be home to get it, they charge you over $140 if you don't return the old one in 7 days.
So I bought this used Android phone and put my SIM in it, and it worked okay. It had some touch screen issues, but functionally it did what I needed it to. When I got home, I called T-Mobile and yep---you guessed it---another exchange. And guess what else? THE SAME PROBLEMS PLUS ONE: Will not charge at all. So, another call to customer service. Guess what they want to do with this one? EXCHANGE IT!! So four phones later, and they think that yet another exchange is going to fix the problem. "That's the only option," the lady told me.
Well, I told her that I have more options...they're called Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T. And a nice write-up on Rip-Off Report! It may not fix the issue, but it does help me feel better to know that I might be able to prevent this from happening to someone else.
