T-Mobile Cell Phone Company let a person, who had gotten my bank account number from the bottom of one of my checks, pay his cell phone bill for 4 months. T-Mobile had set it up as an automatic debit to my account.
I called T_Mobile when I found out what they were doing and told them not to take any more money out of my checking account but they said that it was set up and they could not stop it. So they held out another month for $107.27.

I disputed this with my band and they say they can only get the last two months back. My bank did give me the name of the person who used my account. I called T-Mobile again and again they said only the person who set it up to debit my bank account could stop it.

I did file felony criminal charges against the person, but that will take months before meeting with a Grand Jury.

It appears that T-Mobile does not do anything to stop fraud of people's bank accounts,in fact, they seem to encourage it. They knew it was not that man's bank account, since the man gave them my name and address and bank account number which was easy to get from my check. With all that info that T-Mobile had, they could have mailed me a letter asking me if I wanted to pay someone else's phone bill.

It appears that anyone can pay his/her phone bill with T-Mobile by giving someone else's bank info.

happens all the time

AUTHOR: Tara - (U.S.A.)

Hi, I can understand your frustration but unfortunately this happens legitimately all the time. People get married and don't share the same name. People live together and certainly don't have the same names. My parents go on vacation for extended periods of time and I pay their bills from my checking account. They send me one check to cover all their bills and I disperse it from my checking acct.

I can assure you that neither ComEd nor NiCor question it. With all of this kind of activity going on I'm sure no company would even question it. Plus people usually get mad if you question something like this. They feel it is rather "Big Brother"ish.

I used to work in customer service for a bank. I hope you get the jerk who stole your check. That's a frightening lesson for us all.

Just keep all your bills in order for the court.

You can request restitution from the court, and tell them you don't want it at $1 a week or some other ridiculous amount. If your bank won't stop giving away your money, then close that account and sue them too. How can T-Mobile authorize automatic bill-paying on your account anyways? When I signed up for T-Mobile they told me we had to do it ourselves.
