I chose to order a Rancho brand suspension lift kit not only due to its strong reputation but at the time they offered a very attractive $400 rebate. While the kit was expensive, factoring in the money that the rebate would save, put it right alongside competitors priceing. I ordered the lift kit on May 28, 2013. I immediately submitted the appropriate form for the rebate. The rebate was supposed to take 4-6 weeks.

On July 19, 2013 I got an email that the rebate had been approved and it was due to arrive in 4-6 weeks. About 8-9 weeks later I sent Tenneco a friendly email inquiring about the status of the $400 rebate. I received no response. I waited patiently over 7 more weeks. I did a little Internet research only to find out I was certainly not the only furious customer! I then sent a second email demanding an explanation and informed them of my findings. I promptly got a response assuring me that the situation would be looked into and handled.

A couple days later, there was a second follow up email in my inbox. They were trying to tell me that my rebate had been "mistakenly" filed for $30 instead of the $400. They then would send me a rebate for $30 then in a few weeks I would get the remainding $370. This makes absolutely no logical sense. I have a copy of the form I submitted in my records. No where does it mention anything about $30! And if they hadn't sent it out yet, why not just make it for the full amount as I have already waited over 17 weeks. The part that I find most disturbing is that if I hadn't sent them a couple of emails I would never even possibly get the money that is owed to me. After reading other testimonials, I have reason to believe that these rebates do not simply "slip through the cracks". No, this is no honest mistake. This is how they do business, how they make money. They assume that in 4-6 or even 17 weeks, in my case, that the average consumer will simply forget about the rebate all together. They ignor the initial contact attempt, then, only recognize your issue when you appear persistent and you make them aware that you will not be overlooked. It is scary to think how much money they make from "forgotten" or "incorrectly filed" rebate forms.
