In Janurary 2013 my parents home was destroyed by fire. They had no insurance so they lost everything.  In February 2013 my father died from cancer.  I called Thrifty Propane to cancel propane service because the home was no longer there and my elderly mother could not afford to rebuild.

At this time, my parents had approximately 953 gallons of propane prepaid for. They paid Thrifty Propane between $1.79 per gallon and $1.89 per gallon depending on the price per gallon at the time they prepaid. (Usually when he received his social security check)

My mother was reimbersed 92 cents per gallon instead of the amount that they paid which averaged out to $1.84 per gallon. She was reimbursed  HALF of what she paid.    We were told that it is Thrifty Propane's  POLICY to refund the customer Thrifty Propane's wholesale price and not the actual amount that the customer paid for their product.

This is definately stealing from the customer and taking advantage of the elderly. When asked to show my father's signature on any prepay agreement showing that he may have been aware of this policy...they could not.

Thank you RipOffReport.com! My mother just received a check from Thrifty Propane for $869.04.  If it wasn't for your help she would not have been reimbursed for the money that was owed to her.  Also Thrifty Propane has said that they have changed their refund policy which may help other customers in the future. Again, thank you!!!

No Refund from Thrifty Propane -Thank you RipOffReport.com for at least getting a response from Thrifty Propane.

AUTHOR: Sandy - ()

POSTED: Monday, January 20, 2014

After receiving an email from RipOffReport.com, I learned  that  on December 23, 2013, Thrifty Propane revised their refund policy regarding customers such as my parents that lost their residence due to fire and would not be rebuilding.

They stated that their company would reimburse my mother the full amount that was prepaid for propane that was not used.  This was also reposted on January 16, 2014 from Thrifty Propane.

Since I was not contacted by anyone representing Thrifty Propane and only learned of the intent to refund my mother through RipOFFReport.com. I called Thrifty Propane today, January 20, 2014 and spoke with a representative. I questioned when my mother would receive her refund.  I was told that there was no note on her account regarding this refund but that she would check with her BOSS and call me back.  So far, no call back. I will keep you all informed as to if they do, in fact, refund my mother.  Thank you RipOffReport.com for at least getting a response from Thrifty Propane.

Thrifty Propane Has Refined Its Pre-Purchase Refund Policy

AUTHOR: Thrifty Propane - ()

POSTED: Thursday, January 16, 2014

Thrifty Propane has had a long-standing policy as to refunds of pre-buy accounts. In the event that a customer desires a refund, they will be refunded the pipeline rate on the date of the request. We had not taken into consideration the disaster discribed in this report, that is, a residence that was destroyed and not rebuilt.

In view of this, we have changed our policy so that in the event of  the events described here, the destroyed residence that was not rebuilt, we will refund the full purchase price. We have made arrangements to refund this customer in line with the revised policy.
