Time Warner Cable Late charge reported over one year after service was discontinued, charged off to credit collection Internet

I cancelled Time Warner cable service in May 2011. I paid the bill in full, gave them my forwarding information, and happily moved on. I have not heard one word from them since. 

Today, I received a call from a credit collection agency saying that I was delinquent on a past due payment to Time Warner in the amount of $30.79. Again, I had not heard one word from TWC during the past 18 months. But, in order to protect my credit, I had to pay them. Calling TWC did nothing: they said because the account was more than a year old, they had no record of it.

Classic example of why TWC is a terrible, terrible company.
