This is a complaint against a company that is swindling the American Public, Toshiba. This is evidenced by approximately 155 complaints filed in the rip off report. Make that one more. It is now
March, 2011. This problem was brought to light in January and I’ve been given the run-around since then.
In December, 2010 we purchased a Toshiba laptop through Wall Mart on the internet as a Christmas gift. It arrived, but the first time the CD drive was used, it fell out. It hadn’t been attached to the body of the unit. I called Toshiba and was told that they would send out a box to ship it back
in. I waited for several weeks for the box to arrive and then called Toshiba again and was told, “Oh no. We don’t ship boxes out. I’ll send you an e-mail.” I got the e-mail and was offered 3 choices,
two of which were almost identical and the third was downright stupid. So I opted to pay the $25 to ship the piece of junk back --- but the T number provided wouldn’t come up on the UPS computer. So back on the phone again talking to someone in India or The Philippines who pronounces a “j” like a “G”. I got nowhere there so I decided to call the next day hoping to talk to someone in the States. I finally got someone at the depot who verified that the T number was wrong and that he would generate another T number to clear up the old problem. The new number didn’t work either so I got a hold of “John” again who said he would send me out a box because of all of the trouble I had with their system. I received the box and sent the unit back.
Today, March 19 I got a call from their depot. They wanted $175 to repair the laptop that was ncorrectly assembled. I pointed out that that was the way it was assembled – without the CD Drive installed. The screws that were to have held it in were left out. I was told that I should take it back to Wall Mart. I tried that earlier and was told to contact Toshiba. This is known as the RUNAROUND. At any rate the unit is being returned with the CD Drive separate as it was received.
I am proposing that Wall Mart consider carefully their decision to carry substandard electronic ppliances such as Toshiba equipment. I am also requesting Wall Mart to take this piece of junk back and give me a full refund. I am disappointed that they carry it in the first place when made aware of the consumer complaints against Toshiba itemized in the rip off report.
I am chastising Toshiba for sadleing the American public with substandard products built by people who could care less about quality. It’s not just the fabrication personnel, but those in the customer care department because they don’t know what they are about (we will send a box – we don’t send boxes). They act like a bunch of semi-trained chimpanzees.

Kudos to Walmart who stepped up to the plate and refunded our money and provided the means to ship the piece of junk back - so I am finally rid of Toshiba. Forever. I did get a call from Toshiba though. At the same time I filed this report I sent letters to Toshiba and Walmart. Walmart worked the problem. Toshiba called, not to work the problem, but apparently they had never heard of RipOffRepot. They called to inquire how to find it on the internet. In fact whenever I tried to bring the conversation back to the original problem they would say that they had my letter. What a good example of a bad example.
