I make my payments monthly.  This past month I was late due to how I get paid.  Anyways, when I went in to the app to make the payment (10 days after it was due), I was locked out of it by Credit One.  Not knowing why since I was going to make a payment, I called them, as I couldn't get into their website online either.

I was told (as I have 2 credit cards with them) that they were cancelled due to me being deceased.  They said the only way they would open it back up is if I mail them something in writing proving I am still alive.  Okay if I need to do that, then who in the f**k said I was dead and you took that info over the phone, but I need to mail something in.

I told them they weren't getting another payment from me, as there was  no reason to shut down my credit card accounts.  Since they would not budge, I have not made a payment since and will not make one.  This is Credit One's mistake not mine, and they need to fix it, or they don't get a dime from me.

I am alive and well. I even disputed this on my credit and got nowhere.

Are you five years old?

AUTHOR: John - (United States)

POSTED: Thursday, November 21, 2019

Because seriously- "oh, they are making an error and say I'm dead, fine I don't have to pay my legitimate bill" is so juvenile it's beyond pathetic. You sound exactly like those people who think they don't need to pay bills if reminders don't show up in the mail and physically wack them in the head, or if they don't get "courtesy calls" reminding them that a bill is about to come due. But please, indulge in your little hissy fit- as it's already been explained to you, when this is cleared up that bill will still be there and you will still owe it- except now your credit score has taken a hit. My guess is that it won't matter to someone like you because you've already beaten it into the ground. Do these little victory dances make you feel better about your shabby little deadbeat life?

Not very bright

AUTHOR: Robert - (United States)

POSTED: Thursday, November 21, 2019

You being declared deceased is obviously a mistake. I am not saying you can't be upset about it, but your reaction to it was not very bright.  As eventually this mistake will be corrected. Once it is corrected they will report your delinquencies, as well as start collection efforts against you... and you will still owe the money.

So it is probably time to stop throwing a temper-tantrum that would make a toddler cringe and work on fixing the issue. The first is to send the documentation they require and continue to  make your payments as scheduled. As even if the account is closed, you still made a legal agreement to make the scheduled payments until the balance is zero.

You then need to find out where they got this info, and I can just about guarantee that that it was not over the phone. They, like any company, will not tell you where they got this information.  However, generally reports like this come from the Social Security Administration, so I would verify with them first. You should also pull your credit reports to see if they are reporting it. As inconvienient you may think this is, by ignoring it and telling someone else they need to fix it will likely just cause you bigger issues.

I told them they weren't getting another payment from me, as there was no reason to shut down my credit card accounts.
- This is a very bad idea on many levels. But the biggest is your misunderstanding of how Credit Cards work. It is NOT your money, they are allowing you to borrow up to a certain amount of their money under specific terms. Including but not limited to you agreeing to pay it back at specific payments. Also, that they can at any time reduce the credit line or even close your account...and they don't need a reason.

The other side of this is that you said you were 10 days late, and it seems as if this may be a common occurance due to how you get paid. Well credit card companies don't care the reason why you are late...they just care if you are late. So even if you get this corrected, they may look at your payment history and feel that they no longer want to take the risk on you and decline to reopen the cards anyways.

Since they would not budge, I have not made a payment since and will not make one.
- Actually you are the one who refused to budge. They said that you needed to send them documentation..which you refused. All they see is what is being reported, they don't know you from the guy next door. For all they know you are a scammer who wants access to the account to charge it up and then disappear.

The Ways of a SERIAL DEADBEAT!

AUTHOR: Momo - (United States)

POSTED: Wednesday, November 20, 2019

You are with these people ONLY because YOU gave YOURSELF a reputation of NOT paying YOUR bills on time. What happens now? YOU know YOU owe the money but with you sorry serial deadbeats there's no such thing as integrity.

So go ahead and stomp your feet and don't pay them. Paying your bills isn't one of your strong points anyway! Now's the time to write back saying "you must work for them"!
