I received a 2-10 Home warranty when I bought my house last October. The Air Conditioner went out last Wednesday, we contacted the 2-10 home warranty people and discovered that we were not allowed to make repairs until their man came out to inspect it, and that I would have to pay him $60 for that initial visit. I was told that he would be making an appointment within twnety four hours. When I hadn't heard anything after 30 hours, I called back. I was told they didn't have an "in-network" contractor to look it over, but that I should have my contractor fax them a copy of the invoice for the repairs with all of the particulars noted along with a copy of my check. This was done. The next day, they spoke with my contractor and told him that he woud be paid les than $500 by them, and just under $900 by me, and that they would supply the parts. Apparently, in the course of the conversation, my contractor determined that the parts they wanted to supply were foreign made after market parts that he could not and would not warranty. I hadn't heard anything of these negotiations yet, so I called 2-10 back. They told me that he had agreed to these terms (he hadn't). I told them I would check with him and would call back. I subsequently discovered that they had told him that I had greed to those terms (I hadn't). Because he refused to do it for their pittance and substandard parts, the contractor balked. I called them back and asked them to just let me deal with my own contractor (the only one in town that deals exclusively with that brand of AC unit) and pay me in cash their portion of the repair.

The original cost estimate for the repair was just under $4000. The warranty capped their payments on AC claims at $1500. I ssumed they would jump at that. They told me they would work up a figure to buy out the claim and would call me back in about a half hour. They didn't. The next morning I went online to check the status of the claim and found that they were sending an "In-network" contractor out to inspect the situation (days before they didn't have an "in Network" contractor in our area). I was told he would be out by the next afternoon. I went back again and told them that I believed this was just a stalling tactice, and that they knew at some point in time I would get tired of dealing with them and living without a fully functional AC unit and give in. They told me that they would work up a number an cll me back. When they called back, they offered to pay: $447 for a compressor, $290 for an evaporation coil, $335 for labor, and surchrge and miscellaneous amount of $80, from which they would deduct my $60 copay, deductible, or whatever they call it for a total of $1092 on a repair that will cost me $4,000. My contractor would have had this repair done on Friday of last week had it not been for the staling of the 2-10 people. Of course, had he started any repair before coming to terms with them, 2-10 would pay nothing on the repair. It is now almost noon on Tuesday. My contractor will start tomorrow. I will not get a check for at least 2 weeks, and the email confirming our agreed upon terms has still not been received by me. I would not hesitate to insist upon another warranty should i ever purchase another house, but you can bet anything it will never be from this one. Moreover, if my realtor suggests this company, I will walk away from them as well. These people are bad news and nothing more than predators masking themselves as an insurance company.
