On October 20, 2012 we purchased a Mercedes-Benz E500 from 21st Century Auto Group. Our salesperson was Andrey. The Contract price with taxes and fees amounted to $18,286.13. After trade-in of our car, a contribution of $4,000 was made towards the total price. In addition, we added a $5,000 cash payment up-front. After all the contributions, our balance summed up to $9,286.13.

However, on October 22, 2012 we called our salesperson at 21st Century Auto Group to report that the car was having mechanical problems, in regard to the transmission. We were told by our salesperson to bring it in so we could have the car repaired and install a new transmission. We complied with his request. Six weeks later we still did not receive the car back in our possession after many attempts at contacting 21st Century Auto Group and asking for answers. Our salesperson would not disclose and was insincere about where the car was being repaired. Finally, we picked up the car from the auto repair shop in the same condition it was when we left it with our salesperson.

Then, our salesperson told us to take the Mercedes-Benz back to the dealership and choose a different vehicle. We had no other choice because they informed us that they had already sold the car we traded-in and would not be able to return it and refused to refund us the money. Therefore, we went to 21st Century Auto Group again and decided on a Lexus IS250.

Instead of changing the original Contract, our salesperson prepared another Contract for the Lexus. The price with the tax was even a little less than for the Mercedes-Benz, but in the new Contract the salesperson put the Trade In Allowance as only $12,000 for the Mercedes-Benz, not the full amount ($18,286.13) that he, himself, charged us for a defective car which we never used and which he knew was a LEMON.

We feel cheated and ripped-off.

This car dealership, along with its sales people, management, and personal department are frauds and sell LEMONS. They list themselves as professionals. Yes, they are professionals, professional thieves and scam artists.

To the outside person who already provided answers to this original posting.  When you trade in a car under any circumstances, the original taxes and fees paid have nothing to do with that.  As I've stated before, there has to be a certain amount of CAVEAT EMPTOR when buying a used luxury vehicle.  They are very complicated, and very expensive to maintain and repair.  Unfortunately the transmission issue with the Mercedes you purchased was indeed a complicated one, and we feel that we did the right thing by offering to take the car back from you and put you in another one.  It is against the law to "Re-do" a contract.  If you bought another car, a new contract had to be signed.  I don't have any copies of any contracts here in front of me, but I'm sure the fees were adjusted on the second contract to make up for the difference.  We sell quality cars here at great prices.  There is no such thing as 100% here when it comes to mechanical reliability.  If you want the guys in the white lab coats to greet you and escort you to your loaner vehicle every time you have car trouble, you need to go to a franchise Mercedes of BMW dealer and pay full retail price for your car.  Our cars are a fraction of that price.

I was a car salesman for 18 years working with an independent dealership in New Jersey and also in the auto trade market. I didnt want to spend much time responding to this but I have some point that make me upset about this review. I have also purchased two vehicles from this dealership and have never had a problem, maybe because I know how to spot a scam or because I am not new to this field. I hope this rebuttal helps you or someone else reading.

First and foremost I must say that once a car is signed over and traded-in, that cae belongs to the dealership and they have nothing holding them from immediatly selling it. It is as if you sold any other thing to a person, once they buy it- its theres. So you have to be sure that if your trading in, you are 100% sure your willing to get rid of your car.

Secondly, I can not explain why the transmission would go, this is a major problem that should have def. been avoided and addressed by the dealership prior to selling you the car. Moving forwards, given this problem, they had to correct it. 21 Century Auto is a USED car dealer. Nothing in their paperwork says they sell new cars therefore, purchasing a used car and expecting a "new" transmissin is out of the question. In reality- no dealership would do that. It would cost them wayyy to much.

Thirdly, replacing your vehicel for another ALWAYS means you need a new contract. It is by law that the dealership has to do this for any vehicle that leaves their dealership lot. The making of a new contract can not be avoided by either party. If the lexus was MORE then the mercedes, then that explains why the contract varies and why infact theire was another contract assigned.

I am sorry to hear about all of your trouble. As I mentioned, 21 Century has provided my family with two cars already. We just purchased our second car 2 weeks ago. If we have ever had a problem, they are quick to resolve it and have everything worked out. Andre is fantastic and knows all of his stuff. An honest individual and actually the salesman that I first worked with when I came to this dealership. I hope some of this helps and I wish you the best. The staff here is always great.
