#1 REBUTTAL Individual responds
A Bail Bonds John Wyrick
AUTHOR: John Wyrick - (United States of America)
SUBMITTED: Tuesday, July 12, 2011
I am the accused ripoff artist John Wyrick. I do remember very well how this transaction transpired and am writing this rebuttal in my defense. Samantha did give me the amounts she said she did. The problem is she only mentioned the part that makes me look bad.....not the part about what I told her would happen if I found out the ring that she said appraised for over $10,000 wasn't real.
When I first saw the 'diamond' I had questions about if it were genuine or not. I took the ring for collateral for the $10,000 bond but also told her if I found out that it was not real I would revoke her bond. Bail bondsmen take collateral frequently to cover bonds. Her mom only receives disability and had no way to pay the 10k if Samantha were to 'skip out' on me. When I bonded her she had recently returned from Hawaii where she had been in trouble there also. After a few days of wanting to believe the ring was real I got a chance to take it to a very reputable Jeweler in Wytheville Va. I told him of my concerns. He looked at me with a smirk. After carefully examined the ring, he looked at me and said "It clearly has the letters CZ (Cubic Zirconium) stamped on the mounting". I asked him if he were sure and he said "absolutely sure." I felt that I was justified by revoking the bond at this time because she had misrepresented the value of the ring after all..... bail bonding is based on truth and trust.
I work for someone like most people that work for a living. The company receives 50% of what I bring in on bonds and there is an additional 10% that I have to deposit in a 'build-up fund. I could have given her a refund of my commission but felt that it was unnecessary because I felt that if she lied about the ring I could not trust her and had every right to revoke the bond. I did meet with her mom later that day and returned both rings. I also have a receipt that her mother signed when I returned the other ring.
