This is not the first time it's happened. I called immediately when I saw overdraft fees on my account, but could not track where and what they where actually posting the overdraft charges to. Someone at the banking center gave me answers like, "I can't really explain how..." or "All I can tell you is that if you balance your check book...". Well, thank you BB&T for trying to help me balance my check book. That's really thoughtful of you. I would clearly understand an overdraft fee being applied, if I could see it posted to my account but this is what I was told:

"BB&T charges an overdraft fee for any monies that may leave your account - even - if only in a pending or holding state. If the monies are removed even into a pending or holding state, the bank has every right to charge your account a overdraft or non-sufficient funds charge."

Hmm... so even though, you, BB&T are not paying the vendor for the transaction (which is why you would charge ME an overdraft fee - right? for having to pay for something that I did not have???), why am I getting charged a fee? This in my opinion is a huge bank error causing BB&T to profit off of thousands of people who may think, "I can't get to the bank right this second, but I'll deposit cash first thing in the morning." BB&T says well the money left the account, but I was clearly told that though the money is removed from an account, the merchant still doesn't get paid until BB&T receives the paper transaction. SO WHY, BB&T ARE YOU CHARGING PEOPLE FOR SOMETHING YOUR COMPANY HASN'T EVEN HAD TO PAY FOR!!!

Last week, Apple put a hold on my account for 124.00 and charged my account 105.00 and 18.00. This was for an IPOD that I had purchased. Well because Apple put a 124.00 hold on my account... Let me make this clear - Apple did not receive this money and this transaction never posted to my account... Several items on my account were charged overdraft fees, amounting to 374.00. I by no means am rich. I did not know there would be a hold on my account. When we went to BB&T to find out the problem, they told us we had to talk to apple and as soon as that money was realeased from hold and then put back into the account, they would refund the fees. Well, Apple released the hold the same day. A week later, we're wondering why our fees were not refunded to us??? We were told that corporate denied our request, stating it's not a bank error and we needed to seek retribution from Apple. Ok... Do they really think Apple is going to pay us. How marvelous a bank that is really concerned about their customers that they won't refund money that was clearly an error on both parties???

DONT BANK WITH BB&T!!!! THEY'RE ONE OF THOSE STEAL FROM THE POOR - HELP THE RICH TYPE OF BANKS. NEVER -NEVER- NEVER was our, their customer's well-being ever put into action. Well thank you BB&T for showing the world that 374.00 is more important to you than the human lives of people living in the state you so righteously exclaim to serve. You're a bunch of fascist mongruls that won't get away with the way you're banking. I've banked with B of A, Wells Fargo, and Capitol City and not one of these banks have ever done business the way you do. The scandalous charges of overdraft fees are going to come around to bite you all right in your___!

it's happened to me too...

AUTHOR: 1horreur - (U.S.A.)

i have finally had enough with bb&t.
i had a company place two unauthorized holds on my account and advised bb&t as soon as i found out. i was told there was nothing they could do until the holds were pushed through as charges, then i could dispute. in the meantime, even though these unauthorized holds were just holds, i was charged two overdraft fees. well, the holds were never pushed through and were released, and yet the overdraft fees remain.
i have been having an ongoing problem with my checking account and having many unknown/unauthorized charges post. i asked if bb&t could flag this merchant (as it seems to be the same) and put through no more debits. i was told 'no.' i then - after much hassle placed a complete hold on my checking account.
before doing this, i had already switched my direct deposit to another financial institution. however, after calling bb&t phone 24 DIRECTLY before using their issued check card, i was given a positive account balance. i used the card for fuel and a small purchase. according to phone 24 there was more than enough money in my account to cover the debits. yeah - i was charged 2 overdraft fees for these transactions. when i spoke with a rep, she adv that she was not showing that i had a positive balance before using the card. so how is it that phone 24 says one thing, and a "customer service" rep says another..?
further, if i am telling you that i don't want someone to have access to my account, that should be it. the end.
i do keep monthly records of my deposits/debits/checks. every month i am inexplicable charged a fee for something. further, one month there was approximately $200 missing from my account that i still cannot find, and bb&t cannot tell me what happened to it.
yes, enough is enough. i'm done with them.
one final thing - i did notice that most of my woes with bb&t began after their new posting process began, and even had bb&t tell me that they could post things in which ever order they wanted. it doesn't matter in which order they were received. nice. and just because you are told by the atm or phone 24 that your funds are there - give it extra time - they may not actually be available even though it states they are. aparently there is a machine vs. human chasm that bb&t can quite overcome.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

Don't Listen to that Robert = leave BB&T as soon as you can. Don't wait!

AUTHOR: M - (U.S.A.)

Don't listen to that Robert. He posts on everybody who comments bad about BB&T. (I think he is the President :o)).

Anyways, my suggestion is to leave BB&T as soon as you can. Don't wait! I did and ended up with thousands of dollars in fees.

Second, don't deal with anybody at the local branches. Only talk to high up people (North Carolina office).

Third, file a complaint right away with FDIC and the Better Business Bureau. After I did, BB&T resolved my issues to my satisfaction.

I never kept a check register and only do my banking online. I switched banks and haven't had one bit of trouble with my new bank. So it wasn't the way I was banking -- IT WAS THE BANK I WAS BANKING WITH!

Read my story that I posted. Please take my advice to switch banks as soon as possible.

You just don't get it

AUTHOR: H - (U.S.A.)

Customer service is what it's all about. You just don't get it. I think the bank understands that... or do they?

Some people care about it and some people only care about making money, even off the backs of the little people.

You're probably one of them.

Did You Read "Apple Charged Me 2x's"?

AUTHOR: H - (U.S.A.)

Again, I'll explain, Apple charged me 105.00 for my IPOD and a separate charge of 18.00 for shipping fees. Apple also put a 124.00 hold on my account, completely separate from the other charges that I was not aware of. The 105.00 and 18.00 posted to my account. About 8 small charges that should have been covered under the 124.00 were all charged NSF Fees. One day after I saw these fees posted to my account, we went to the bank to have them explain. They said it's because Apple put a hold on these monies of 124.00. The bank employee firmly said that she would put the money back into the account after Apple took the hold off. Apple released the hold that very day. One week later, BB&T corporate office said it's Apple's fault not the banks and even though the error was clearly corrected, BB&T did nothing wrong.

I've never been charged a NSF fee or overdraft fee for an item that's never actually physically posted to my account. Where I can read it. BB&T has charged me fees for items that aren't even on my statement - that aren't even posted. How am I to know what they're doing right or wrong? I'm entrusting them to show me how they are managing my money. Instead I get stupid answers about pending transactions. If the bank has done nothing about paying the merchant why is there a fee??? That's what the fee is in place for, right? To ensure the bank that they receive a fee for something they had to DO?

Maybe you have a lot of money in your bank but just like many of other americans as you can read from other rip off reports, BB&T's system of NSF fees and overdraft fees are some how working everyone over. I was charged a 4.95 checking fee once on my account of which was supposed to be free checking and charges a bunch of overdraft fees because I was short 0.25. I explained to them that I was a free checking account. They rebuttled until they found out it was an error on the banker's part putting the information in incorrectly. And quite honestly, I'm definitely one of those people who fight for those who don't have a voice of their own. For those who are tired of corporate bruhaha shoving their heels down on the average american's back just to get an extra dollar in their pocket. I'm broke as it is, but I'm still trying to make it. And then my EX-Bank has to punch me in my face when they're supposed to help me get better?

You think you know everything, but you're probably sitting in a position where you can see the valley. I'm in the valley, jerk. And although I like the mountains, we average americans understand what life really means: fighting for what we NEED & giving to those in NEED.

Here's a better question.

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

Why are you spending money you don't have?

It's all pretty simple. You've authorized a debit from your account when there weren't enough funds in it to cover it. How is the bank to know if you'll be in the next day or next week to cover it.

Read through your account terms and conditions. It should all be explained in there. Something to the effect that the bank will allow the customer to overdraw their account using the ATM or their check card but will charge a fee for doing so.
