Credit One Bank sent an unsolicited credit card offer to our home. The advertisement indicated that my husband had been pre-approved for a $1500 credit line. It did not mention any annual fees, he said if it had he would not have applied for the card. He applied on-line and was approved.
The card arrived quickly in the mail. However, the credit line was for only $400 not the advertised $1500. The card was activated in May, 14, 2012 and fees totaling $81 had been added on May 18th, now the credit line is less than $400. Then he sees that the interest rate is a whopping 23.90% and there is a $35 late fee if you are late! Red flags all over the place now.
After much research I find there is a long list of complaints, hundreds and hundreds; that payments are held to make sure they can add a late fee, that online payments cost $9.95 each; further more in order to cancel you have to have a zero balance and they conveniently make sure at least a penny is charged so there is never a 0 balance.
This is predatory be every definition. The seek the most vulnerable and needy, the people they can scam easier because they can't afford a lawyer. They exploit the elderly and novices who don't understand the impact of this type practice.
We fall under the vulnerable and poor category, living on social security and really needing some cushion for between checks. Credit One Bank is an outrage! This behavior is not only despicable it ranks up at the top of my terrorist red flag list!
Credit One Bank is FDIC insured; it is supervised by the federal agency OCC, Office of Comptroller of the Currency. They are operating under federal laws; it will be the National BBB that one should complain to as well as the Las Vegas, NV BBB; Federal and state Attorney General's offices should be contacted. Mr. Robert Dejong is the CEO of the Credit One Bank also a Mr. Berkman Hong are parties to it. This is a predatory scam, it is created to steal from the poor and needy.
Everyone needs to warn their family and friends, use social media and opinion forums, but we need to make this stop. We need to expose the criminal intent of Credit Bank One. Report them to every office you can and let them know we will not tolerate this scam anymore.
Where is the money going? How do they justify their actions and deceptions? Are they reporting all their illegal profits or is there a chance they are sending the money out of the country to who knows what organization or enemies of the USA? Let the truth be revealed and Credit One Bank exposed to the entire country for its crimes against victims, not clients.

Tell me then, how do you explain Credit One Bank taking all my personal information and approving me for Credit card in 2007. Again in 2017. And in both occasions I've never received the card. And according to their site they are both approved waiting to be mailed?? No where in the fine print does it tell you they are scamming to just obtain your personal information for theft, to sell or whatever other illegal reason they may have to falsely claim you have been approved when in fact there is no attempt ever made to actually mail your card to you. Explain this to me.

Credit One Bank did respond!

This morning I phoned on my husband's behalf Credit One Bank in Las Vegas, NV. I asked to speak to Mr. Robert Dejong, the CEO. I was on hold for four minutes. A Consumer Representative for the credit card division came on the line. I politely told her the concerns. She countered with the fact that they are in good standing with the OCC, BBB, and other organizations. She firmly denied that this credit card solicitation is a scam targeting the needy or senior citizens.
She was professional, not rude and seemingly concerned about our situation. She did offer to cancel the account which we did. She said there will be a final bill, and then it will be a zero balance and no longer an issue. My husband had to give her permission and identify himself before she talked with me. I told her that many years a go I had a similar experience with Capitol One; they failed to zero the account, saying I owed a balance of 10 cents! They ran up late fees, and additional charges to over 150 dollars. I had sent them a dime over and over. So I finally addressed it with the legal department, and they waived some of the fees. I kept sending them a dime. I also got them to leave me alone, but they put it on my credit report. I disputed their claim. It is a predatory practice and the Credit One Representaive claims, they do not do this.
Credit One Bank is located at 585 Pilot Road, Las Vegas NV 89119-3619. The switch board number is 702 269-1000.
I am very pleased they were so willing to help!

In your rush to accept the card, you obviously failed to read the inserts that came along with it. Their fees (which are really high) are clearly explained in the pamphlet that accompanied the application. I get those pre-approval offers all the time, and they're all the same: application, statement of fees, and a disclaimer that you may not receive the credit line you anticipate based on a further review of your credit report.
While it's sad that this happened to you, perhaps it will provide a valuable lesson in reading EVERYTHING before you accept.
