DriveTime states they complete a 53 point inspection for saftey of each vehicle it sells.  Four months into my purchase, I began to smell fuel after filling up.  Brought my vehicle back to their shop, where it was discovered the fuel flex line had been damaged and taped up.  This was noticed by merely putting my car on their lift.  DriveTime refuses to take responsibility for this much needed repair.

Prior to this incident, I took my vehicle to an oil change facility and walked out paying $400. for work that Drivetime neglected to take care of prior to my sale.  When I went to the DriveTime location to complain, they said too bad, I should have gone to their recommended repair shop.

Never will I recommend DriveTime or purchase from them again.

Lets be honest DriveTime

As a former GM of DriveTime I warn as many people as possible about this company and it's practices.  I would like to have a dime for every time I called the service center and spoke to the manager there about brakes that were so rusted, or rotors that were badly pitted.  One of my customers actually had her brakes catch on fire!  Interestingly enough, each one of these vehicles listed a very expensive and complete brake work done with all components checked and brand new rotors. I  saw cars that were charged with 3 new batteries at the service center that I had to put a new battery in at my dealership.  Drivetime stopped letting lot porters, who might have at least has a small sense of auto mechanics, check in the vehicles at the lots and started making the salespeople do it!!!  As GMs we were all very upset because now tranny and brake issues, etc. would not be found until their "check in" period was over and the dealership would be stuck with the bill.  Most dealerships didn't want to pay for this because it would potentially take away from our manager's bonuses.  Just google the history of Ray Fidell and Ernie Garcia.  See what interesting projects they were involved in in the past.  It will make you go wow!!

Your problem is time...

You stated that four months after you purchased it you became to smell fuel after filling up.  You took the vehicle to their(Drive Time?) shop where they found the tape.  So how can you prove that it was like that four months ago and not something that was done after you bought it?

You stated you went into an "oil change facility" and had to pay over $400 in repairs.  Well some of these places are also not known for being the most "up and up" in repairs.  It is quite possible that they may have done this.  I say this because of your statement that this was so easy to see.  So wouldn't this "oil change facility" have seen this and let you know about it then?

Your car was sold "As-Is".  If you have something documented that this fuel line was one of the 53-Points you may have a case.  IF you can prove that they knew about it.
