I went to game crazy and bought a ps3 and paid for an aditional
1 year extended warranty for $69 ,well as you know wallmart is 90 days, toys r us is 30 days, best buy is 30 days. I never thought I would get ripped of by
any retailer espesially within 15 to 30 days.Well fernando the manager of game crazy in national city told me they could do notihing about my defective
product and I would have to call sony wow! I never heard that before i allways delt with the retailer that I bought the product from. So after talking
to the manager still within the warranty time he tells me theres nothing he can do and to call sony to replace the ps3 after I did all that sony took almost a month to exchange my ps3 and when they did, they sent me a
cardboard box with ps3 with a diferent serial number. So now I call retailer and im pissed of because it still does not work,so he said ok bring it in ill give you store credit, but when I get there he said it has a different serial number and that my warranty is void.I said you are the one who told me to send it
because you couldnt exhange it now that im willing to accept store credit you cant even do that because you cant verify that sony has the old console
I will give this 7days then I will file.

I AGREE WITH ABOVE POSTS

AUTHOR: Nick - (U.S.A.)

WHEN YOU PURCHASE A SYSTEM FROM US THE FIRST SEVEN DAYS ARE COVERED FOR REPLACEMENT OF A DEFECTIVE UNIT AND IF THAT STORE DID NOT HAVE THE INVENTORY HE SHOULD HAVE CALLED OTHER STORES THERE ARE MANY TO CHOOSE FROM IN CALI. HE COUD HAVE FOUND YOU ONE. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BEST BUY, CIRCUIT CITY AND WALMART IS THAT WHEN YOU BUY THEIR EXTENDED THEY HAVE A DEAL IN PLACE WITH SONY TO REPLACE IN STORE AS LONG AS THE SERIAL NUMBERS MATCH BUT THE GAME STORES GAME CRAZY, GAMESTOP AND EB FOLLOW THE 7 DAY THEN MANUFACTURE WARRANTY THEN THIER EXTENDED AND BE CAREFUL WHEN BUYING EXTENDED AND MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT IT COVERS VERY LIMITED AND SPECIFIC THINGS. IF IT WAS TEULY IN THE 7 DAYS THE CALL CORP AND THEY WILL RECTIFY AND THE DM SHOULD CONTACT YOU.

Sony policy

AUTHOR: Workinghardsee111 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, September 03, 2008

Ok so here is the basics of Game Crazy policy. New systems have a 7 day return policy. Full refund if unopened or a switch for the same thing if open and defective. So at the very least they should of givin you a new one. This is CORPORATE company policy for all game crazys and it is printed on the back of your receipt. NOW sony however has different contracts and policys for different game crazy stores regarding the Ps3's. some game crazys only get ONE ps3 at a time depending on their revenue and store size. When this happens sony will not allow that store to take it defective product they all have to be returned directly to sony, this is to make sure that location gets a replenishment on that system. When we take something in as a return even if its defective it goes back into our inventory. So if our inventory is showing one and were only allowed one they are not going to send us more. My store wasent like that we were in vegas and it was a HIGH revenue store.

Sounds like a inexperienced manager

AUTHOR: Ex-game Crazy Employee - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, August 29, 2008

Sounds like this manager did not know what he was doing. I could maybe understand if this was during the period when PS3's were hard to find on store shelves. But at the date of your post this doesn't seem to be the case. Anytime during the first 7 days they should have replaced your PS3 with another PS3. No "ifs, ands or buts." When PS3's were hard to come by Game Crazy did send guests to Sony directly to replace the PS3s. Systems were not abundant on the store level and the guest would've got a quicker reponse time with Sony anyways. As a previous manager I would've replaced your PS3 with another. If this was a used PS3 then you actually have 90 days with Game Crazy (and another year on top of that if you bought the service contract.) On a new system you have 1 year with the manufacturer. Game Crazy will actually honor the first 7 days of that 1 year warranty with Sony. Then the balance of the warranty is with Sony. If you bought the service contract for a new system then that kicks in as soon as your 1 year with Sony is expired. With the service contract you have a total of 2 years. 1 year Sony, then the second year with Game Crazy. Of course that can be voided if you take apart or modify your system yourself.

If you sent your system to Sony I would explain to Sony that the system was bought at Game Crazy and you got an extended warranty. Ask if Sony can send a letter with your replacement stating your broken systems serial number and what the serial number of the new system is. The store should also be able to call Sony to make sure that this exchange that Sony did for you did take place. Game Crazy will be able to simply write in your new serial number on your contract. Make sure your contract is not redeemed by Game Crazy within that first year. Sony is suppose to make all the repairs during that year. Your service contract should only be redeemed during the second year.

Unfortunately, every retailer has different return policies. Some businesses are larger than others and have certain privileges and pull with various manufacturers whereas others don't. Game Crazy has only 580 stores and does not have the pull that GameStop does with their....uh...I don't know like 5000+ stores. Before buying anything from a store make sure you check the return policies for different stores and also check to see who has certain specials with the sale of their systems. With Game Crazy you get 12 free rentals with your system. With places like Circuit City you can get a free game, jampack, cd carry case, controller or whatever they are offering on their weekly ads. Don't be caught surprised. Ask questions about the return policy even if you think you understand it. Have them explain it as if you were a 6 year old (quote from Philadelphia (Tom Hanks)).

In closing, you should've been taken care of by this store manager. He seems that he might be a little inexperienced in dealing with returns/exchanges. Game Crazy is extremely strict on returns of consoles. You could get it resolved by the district manager. If that doesn't work call the Guest Service Hotline and explain the issue to them. The number is 1-8-SPEAK-TO-US (1-877-325-8687) Be sure to explain your issue clearly and let them know that you were trying to exchange the system within the 7 day guideline. Also let them know what the store is doing to you now. Send an e-mail as high up as the president of the company himself if you need to.

Hope this helps.

WOW PAY ATTENTION

AUTHOR: Nick - (U.S.A.)

FIRST OF ALL THE EXTENDED WARRANTY MEANS JUST THAT IT TAKES EFFECT AFTER THE MANUFACTURE WARRANTY OF 1 YEAR. SECOND SONY PREFERS THAT ALL DEFECTS GO THROUGH THEM TO GET REPARIED SO THE STORES DO NOT DEPLETE THEIR INVENTORY BY THE WAY THAT IS STRAIGHT OUT OF THE MOUTH OF A SONY OF AMERICA REP. THAT IS STATED IN THEIR WARRANTY THAT YOU SEND IT BACK TO THEM FOR REPAIR AND NOT RETURN IT TO THE SOTRE OF PURCHASE. BIG BOX CHAINS MAY DO IT BECAUSE THEY CARRY MORE UNITS THEN THE GAME STORES IN EACH STORE THE GAME STORES MAY ONLY CARRY 3-5 WHILE BIG BOX STORES MAY HAVE UP TO 40. OH AND BY THE WAY JUST BECAUSE SONY'S CRAPPY WORKMANSHIP HAS COME THROUGH YET AGAIN YOU CAN'T GET UPSET AT THE STORE THAT SELLS IT THE DID NOT MAKE IT.

Times a ticking

I dont know when you bought the system, but if it was within 90 days and you used a credit or debit card, call your bank immidiately and file a dispute. Keep all records of what happened. Many banks will not let retailers scam their customers with broken merchandise. With your situation you can possably get both the cost of the system and contract back. My bank has done two chargebacks with this company in the past year due to similar problems, one was selling a used game shrinked wrapped as new. Good luck.
