Garage Door Service Company ripoff, extra labor charge, did not return to fix Mesa Arizona

I called this company because it was 6:30AM and the company I usually would call wasn't open; I needed to get my car out to go to work. On the phone the company quoted $109.00 each for broken springs on the garage door and a $49.95 labor charge. She said they would be here within the hour.

They arrived in two hours, after me calling back to see where they were. They started to work without quoting me any more charges. When they were done they asked me to come out and look. Michael, the repair tech, said that the garage door really needed new roller also. I asked how much and he said $90.00. I agreed.

When he was finished with everything, he handed me the bill and asked me to use the remote and run the garage door up and down. It made a horrible grinding noise. When I questioned the noise he said that a couple of teeth in the gears had probably broken off when the spring broke and the door crashed down. He said it would probably work OK for about a year before the gear broke all the way! When I looked at the invoice it had an additional charge of $80.00 labor, which had not been quoted to me. I paid him as I needed to get to work. The total bill was $456.77, for something that should have cost about $225.00.

When I came home the door would not open without me getting out of the car and helping it up for about the first foot of the way. The next day it would not open at all. When I called back, the operator told me that the tech had recommended that I replace the gear and I refused! That conversation never happened!

After them promising to come back 2 different times, I went to another garage door service store and bought the carriage (not gear) for $28.00 plus tax and fixed it myself!

In addition, I drove to the address listed on the invoice to talk to someone in person about feeling I had been ripped off. The address listed is a Mailboxes facility! Somehow I wasn't surprised.

I would at least like to get my $80.00 labor charge back, since I did not agree to it. I believe I should also get some of the over-charge back. Best case, I would like to let other people know about this company so they can avoid being ripped off also. I have filed a complaint with the AZ Attorney General's office.
