Have any of you had forced placed insurance they will not allow you to cancel?

I have forced place insurance on my home by GMAC. I had a claim. 10 days after the claim i had a quote for insurance from a private carrier. I called and tried to cancel the forced insurance. I was told that as long as i had a claim open, I could not cancel.

The insurance company Assurant refused to pay the claim, I am out $20,000. Meanwhile they took their own sweet time to close the claim which they did not pay, some 7 months!

I have complained to the Attorney Generals office in Texas and to the State Board of insurance.
If any of you have had similar experiences, in any state. please will you place a statement or a rebuttal here.
