Home Depot carries an aluminum patio product made by Temco, but distributed by MaxHome in New Orleans. Home Depot has the display in their stores and a rep in the store will tell you about the product and then schedule the free in home estimate. When the guy shows up for the estimate, he is wearing a home depot shirt and carries a business card that says Home Depot but I think he is probably a MaxHome employee. Regardless, the "free in home" estimate that was supposed to take 60 - 90 minutes took 3 hours instead. Not because of me, but because of the "sales pitch" for the product. Now the product does seem to be a good product. However, for an aluminum patio cover that is 8 ft wide and about 21 feet long, the initial estimate was over $15,000. or about $89.28 per sq ft. This is not an enclosed patio...just a cover. The rep explained that there would be about 11 major pieces to construct the patio cover (2 posts, 2 beams, 1 "C" channel, and 5 or 6 insulated panels.) At a price of $15,000.00, that equates to about $1363.64 per piece. The rep went on to explain if I "bought today and today only", the cost would be reduced by 10% or down to $13,500. or about $80.36 a sq ft.. When I filed a complaint with home depot about the excessive cost, their customer service rep called me and began to justify the outrageous cost by saying they had to pay insurance, workman's comp, shipping, handling, sales commission, pay for buildings etc. I explained to him, that was the cost of doing business. I even asked him if he would be willing to pay 1363.64 for a post.... I got no response. So stay away from Home Depot, they will try to rip you off as well. I think because I am an older single lady they thought I was also stupid. Initially I thought the $15,000.00 price tag was an attempt at a scam but no, Home depot did verify that was indeed the correct price but they would give me a 10% discount. Rip Off at another level. I certainly will not be shopping at Home Depot anymore.

They tell you the price. Thats the price THEY charge. Did you get any estimates before you decided to post? Probably not or you would have included that information in order to support your argument. Instead of posting a negative review since you DID NOT purchase it, and only had a estimate, you should be reaserching the costs of other aluminum patio cover suppliers. You may find that the costs are comparative across the board. Roughly 10-15k.
I just find it funny how far back in time you are existing. I mean obviously you can use a computer. But youre stuck in 1950 on prices. Hate to break it to you but its 2013 and things cost more then they did IN THE PAST!!!!
You have NOT been ripped off. You have NOT been scammed. Youre just some cranky fart that cant get inline with current pricing. And when they do you the courtesy of calling to explain, youre a jackass about it. Remember YOU LIVE IN AMERICA!!!! ITS A CAPITOLISTIC SYSTEM!!!! IF YOU LOOK AROUND YOU MAY FIND A CHEAPER PRICE ELSEWHERE!!
Useing the web and this site for your complaint is like a old man complaining about how coffee used to cost a nickle. All it gets you is a funny look because its obvious you DO NOT live in the NOW!! Its not a ripoff. Its business. And youre right in one aspect, all those costs are part of doing business and guess WHO pays it. Thats right, the customer. So try joining us in the 21st century. Using a computer is a BIG step. Now all you have to do is accept we are not in an economy of 50-60 years ago.
