On April 14th, 2004, my husband and I purchased a John Deere lawn tractor from Home Depot. It had a 2 yr. manufactured warranty. We also purchased
an extended 4 yr warranty for $249.99. We were told that we had a total of 6 yrs. warranty on it. It needed minor repair in Janruary 2009. We called Home Depot to make sure the warranty was good and was told that it was covered until 2009. They gave us the number to call to get an appointment to have it picked and repaired. The extended warranty representive told us that the warranty run out in 2008. That was only 4 yrs. althougher. He said that the first two years we purchased ran the same time as the manufactured warranty. Why would e we pay for 4 extra yrs. to only get 2. It would be stupid to give them $125.00 for the 2 yrs that the manufacture already has covered? Something smells rotten to me. Beware! Don't be talked in to buying extended warrantys.

while I agree with what you are saying as I know that the box stores have misled people, the value of the warranty overlapping the manufacturer warranty is that when you had a machine problem - warranty or not, the extended warranty would have paid the pickup/delivery/travel expenses so you didn't have to.

Manufacturers do not pay this at all. As an example, I get a minimum of $50 for travel expense myself. That would cover 5 or less travel calls for repairs by a shop charging similar prices if it came out of your pocket.

No slight at you in the least but there are some people do like the idea of not having to worry about things like that.
