This company, which I only learned the name of from internet searches for the # that keeps showing up on caller ID is harassing me for money I owe Ebay. I admit I owe Ebay some money (not much) and I am paying Ebay back, not a collection agency, monthly. This in no way stops them from calling me constantly.
I am called somedays every hour (from 8am to 9pm) seven days a week. The only reprieve is holidays. WHEN I answer the phone I am harassed by very rude people who do not know consumer law. I have been told that I am worthless; that I need to get a job to pay this; that they are going to have me arrested; that if I don't pay this they will start calling my neighbors and telling them I am a deadbeat; and on and on. These tactics are in violation of Federal Consumer Debt law.
I have requested that they mail me something, as they refuse to tell me who they are---they will only say that they are collecting for ebay. I have received nothing in the mail. When I repeatedly ask for their company name, I am told that I am trying to change the topic away from the fact that I owe Ebay money.
When I state that I am paying Ebay back monthly myself a small amount, I am told that I cannot do that (though Ebay credits my account) and that I am cheating them out of money (uh, yeah). When one woman was really harassing me and asked why I didn't pay it all at once, I explained I live on disability and she then launched into a tirade of how scum like me take her tax dollars and end up in debt.
Needless to say I no longer answer the phone when I see this number, I don't need to be verbally abused. Their website claims they are ETHICAL. Boy, that's a laugh! It's not ethical to verbal abuse, name call, violate the law, and harass people. They also claim on their website that they are PROFESSIONAL in their treatment of debtors. Another laugh!
I am following steps that the FTC provide for illegal collection tactics. Hopefully their daily calls will cease and desist soon.

Thank you! These calls are on my cell phone, but I will check with cingular about this. I have just sent them a certified letter (with return receipt) requesting they cease and desist calling my # ---which i included in the letter.
ohio does have one party consent BUT, if it is a business you have to tell them that. my cell phone DOES have record capabilities, so i think the next time i feel like answering their call---such as after i know they've received my cease and desist i will tell them i am recording and then record it when i tell them they have received my cease and desist and they are violating the law.
i am filing complaints with the attorney general in MN and OH, and BBB in MN....

Its a crime under both federal and ohio laws, for anyone to make obscene, harassing or threatening phone calls.
I think ohio is a one party consent state, where if your a party to this call, you can record it without telling the other party ( YOU MUST CHECK TO MAKE SURE OF THIS)
another thing you can do is call your phone company, and tell them your getting obscene phone calls, they will tell you to call the police and get a case number, once you have that, call them back, each time you get an obscene call as soon as you hang up, you press * 55 or whatever they set up. it will log the date, time and number coming in even if its blocked, what's great about this, if you sent the collection agency a letter (RRR) telling them not to contact you by phone only by u.s.mail. each time they called you have a violation and a offical record to prove the violation and its money in the bank for you.
If they call after you set this up, you don't have to tell them, just piss them off and they will keep calling.
