Jennifer Convertibles ripoff Torrance California

I purchased a standard convertible sofa from the Torrance branch of Jennifer Convertibles on May 8, 2005 and paid in full by credit card. To our amazement, we were told it would take 8-12 weeks for this sofa to be delivered. Considering it was not a special order, this seemed a long time to have to wait.

After two weeks had gone by, my daughter's husband was notified that he was to be deployed overseas. We realized that we would not need the sofa and, since there were at least two months remaining before the sofa was to be delivered, we cancelled, expecting a complete refund. After two more weeks, we eventually received a refund. Then the branch called to say that unless I provided them with deployment papers I would be charged 30% of the full price, i.e., over $600 (for nothing!!!).

Obviously I am not able to hand out deployment papers from the Air Force to a furniture store and, in any event, my daughter and son-in-law have already left the country. We were not advised of the 30% cancellation charge when we purchased the sofa and eventually found the clause on the back of the order form. I think this is incredibly poor customer service and I shall never, ever purchase from this store again.
