In May of 2013 I took two gold rings in to be cleaned and re-rotered. I had done this every 6 months for the last five years.
But this time, the first ring came back on time, and the second was delayed. The delayed ring was a heavy, thick, 14K white gold wedding band.
When it came in a week later, I noticed that it was not the same ring that I had dropped off. The ring given to me was light, flimsy feeling, and had a different sound to it when tapped on surface. But the main difference was the weight and thickness. And it didn't fit either. It was bigger, indicating a different ring.
When I told the sales clerk, she was kind, but denied that it had happened. She said that it had to be the same ring that I dropped off. But, how do you tell someone who has been wearing a ring for five years that they are mistaken? It didn't feel the same, look the same, or wear the same.
I never got anywhere with the clerk. And I never got my ring back. I am just sick about this. Someone obviously swapped it out because of the thickness and quality. It's sad because there is nothing that I can do about this. It is basically the sales person's word against mine.
I will never do business with Kay Jewelers again.

I have a couple of suggestions. Kay Jewelers has a pretty good reputation and I think if you escalate this higher than a clerk you might get somewhere.
Do you have a photo of you wearing the original ring? I'm thinking maybe there's one in your wedding photos.... And if you have a more recent picture as well, that could help.
I would start with the manager of the local store, then send copies of the pictures to the corporate office along with a letter of explanation.
I hope you get your ring back :-)
