In January of this year I went into Keyes Toyota (after days earlier helping a friend buy a car at Keyes Lexus) and was checking out the cars when my wife and I decided to get an 07' Matrix. Our good freind that I had just helped buy a Lexus came with us and when I found out that I had fraud on my credit report she offered to Co-sign and after much discussion between she and my wife they encouraged me to get the Camry Hybrid 07' that I really wanted.

After we found out that I could not be on the loan at all and my wife did not ahve a social number yet - our friend bought the car for me and I am making the monthly payments.

The salespeople were very nice but a couple were too aggressive and the sales manager was very nice and I enjoyed the experience at the time. We were told that Camry Hybrids were going for $3,000 MSRP and I told them that I had sold cars before and know that some models are indeed "HOT" and in short supply but that we would not pay that much though I know that they deserve to make a profit and had never paid more than $500 over factory invoice on any new car.

They told me that the best that they could do would be $2,000 over invoice. It was getting late and my friend was getting tired so I agreed and then let her do the paper work while the car was cleaned and "delivered" (sales lingo for showing and explaining features, service warranties, etc). My friend was told that she would get an interest rate of 9.5% because this was a second car and she has just started a new job that month. I went in to help finalize the paperwork and picked out a Lojak and extended warranty (With a Hybrid I did not want to take any chances).

Later we found out that no other Dealerships were charging over sticker price and instead of calling the managers which I know have limited authority, I called the Director of the Keyes Automotive Group, Larry Abramson and left him a message on his voicemail. In short, Larry contacted the general sales manager and they have me a 5 year platinum maintenence plan and have been very polilte, porfessional and while I may not recommend buying there, the service department is fantastic and my Service Advisor Manny is excellent and he has won numerous awards and I can see why.

I worked for Keyes Lexus very briefly a few years ago and left due to their agressive sales style which just does not fit into the 21st Century of buying a car and they do indeed need a serious change in their sales managment style but it appears that they might be on the right road. I would recommend that anyone having problems at any Keyes Automotive Group store contact Larry Abramson. You can call any of their dealerships and ask for him and they will transfer you to his office.

There Is No Such Thing As A Bad Dealership!

AUTHOR: Karl - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, September 09, 2007

There is no such thing as a bad Dealership, only BAD PEOPLE who work at Dealerships! The majority of employees who work at Car Dealerships are good people. However, it only takes ONE person to tarnish an entire Dealership, or an entire Fortune 500 Corporation! If a company has an Executive who is unethical, there WILL be a 'trickle-down' effect.

It's mainly the Managers who are unethical at Car Dealerships and this is a reflection of the ownership. Bad owners hire bad managers. The problem will never be solved by recycling Bad Managers back into other Dealerships. A total change must take place.

To solve the problem (for the most part), the main brands of vehicles should no longer be purchased at the actual Dealership. All purchasing could be done at Walmart and Costco and Target stores all over the USA. If you want a Honda or a Toyota or a Chevy etc. just go into Walmart where you can sit in an area and wait to see a SALARIED Finance Person who has NO INTEREST in what brand you have selected. This Finance Person will only HELP you to get the BEST FINANCING for your purchase.

The Car Dealerships can simply be a WAREHOUSE for New Vehicles where customers can go and look and test drive. The customer's zip code could be one of the factors that will determine which Dealership MOVES THE UNIT. If there is a trade, then the customer can shop all the Dealers he or she wants and the Dealer that gives the top trade value will be the Dealership that MOVES that unit.

Car Dealerships can still employ all the Managers and Salepeople they want because they will only sell USED CARS! Let the ethical ones remain and allow the unethical ones die out. New Vehicles can be sold the way they should. HONESTLY. Car Dealerships can still service vehicles and sell parts since there is NO NEGOTIATION involved here.

And for all of you 'doubting Thomases' out there who will say, 'that won't work', ask yourself this question: At any given moment, are there MORE customers at a Toyota Dealership or are there MORE customers at a Walmart? It can't be denied! Costco, Target & Walmart have the customers! And if someone was interested in a NEW CAR and they could walk right over to the area where all the logos were for (Nissan, Toyota, Honda, Ford, Chevy, Dodge, etc. etc.) and get true and accurate Financing from an honest, SALARIED, employee who has no loyalty to any brand, we'd have an almost PERFECT scenario for all consumers who wanted a NEW VEHICLE!

If this were the case, Toyota would have surpassed General Motors a few years ago. Toyota has LOST more sales than they could imagine because of the tactics used at their Dealerships! I know this because I worked at 3 of them since 2000. A customer who wants a Toyota shouldn't be driven away by an UNETHICAL WAY of doing business as the Retired Navy Man was who ended up with a Nissan! But then again, Mr. Jim Press didn't really care. And I'm sure he doesn't care about Toyota Customers now! He's a DODGE MAN.

Write a letter, you'll feel better!

P.S. Porsche Dealers can still remain as well as others like Mercedes Benz and BMW etc. There are good places to go. It's too bad the majority of Americans will never have the opportunity to see what it CAN be like! And Charlene, I'm doing everything I can for you and the 1,000's of people who have been left behind by Toyota. I won't stop!!

P.S.S. I ran this idea of how New Vehicles could be sold to a woman. She said, (quote) 'If that was how New Cars were sold, I'd have purchased one a few years ago.' She said she won't go into a Car Dealership because it's too scary.

** To any of the Chinese Car Manufacturers who want to sell MORE CARS than you can imagine from day one, put my method into practice. You won't be sorry!!
You can call it- 'Fortune One' (the way cars should be sold!) And everyone gets a Fortune Cookie with their purchase!
