My husband and I went to Mattress One in West Palm Beach, FL on July 23, 2008 because we needed a new mattress and they were having a "blowout" sale! When we got to the store we told the salesperson that we were looking for a mattress that would be supportive for a bad back as both my husband and I suffer from chronic back pain. Without hesitation he directed us to the latex memory foam model, stating it was their "top of the line" mattress, that it was supportive for someone with back problems as it was designed to "conform" to your body to help align the spine while you slept. We tried the model in the store and agreed that it was very supportive and comfortable! After a breif consultation amongst ourselves, my husband and I agreed to purchase a queen size mattress. We were told that they were discounting the mattress by a $1,000 dollars, so the queen size would ony be $1,498! In addition to the mattress we sample the latex pillows and agreed to purchase two of them at $150 each! We paid cash!

The mattress and the pillows were delivered about 3 days later! The delivery truck was supposed to be there at 5 p.m. but didn't arrive until 10 p.m. By that time we were so tired that we didn't really inspect the mattress. The only thing I noticed is that there wasn't a plastic cover on it. When I asked why, the delivery person told me that they had removed it in the truck to help speed up the process since it was so late! So I signed the delivery slip and proceeded to put a sheet on the mattress and went right to bed. Over the next week we noticed that neither of us were sleeping very well and that we were in more pain than before! So I called the store to complain. I told the salesperson that the mattress was very uncomfortable, and that it was different from the model we saw in the store. The model in the store was 12" thick, and the one they delivered was only about 8" thick. I told him that that we wanted the same mattress we tested in the store or we wanted our money back so we could get a different mattress. He told us that we should give it "some more time" as we were used to sleeping on a "conventional" mattress and we should take the full 30 days to try the mattress before we made up our minds, and reminded me that the mattress was designed conform to our bodies as we slept on it, and that a week wasn't enough time. I bought his bullshit!

However, even after 30 days, the mattress was getting more uncomfortable and we noticed that it started to have some "sinking" spots. So again I called the store to complain and the saleperson directed me to their corporate office in Miami, FL. I spoke to whom I thought was the owner and he told me that there was nothing he could do. That the store didn't offer the "30-day money-back guarranty" that the manufacturer did. So I called the manufacturer. The manufacturer claimed that the store was responsible so again I called Miami. For the next two months I was bounced back and forth between the corporate store and the manufacturer with no results. Finally, I called the corporate office and told them that if I did not receive a phone call from the owner of the store within 48 hours that I was going to take them to court. The owner called back immediately. He asked what he could do to prevent me from taking them to court, and I told him he had two choices: 1) he could replace the faulty mattress with a new one, and give us the same one we tried in the store, or, 2) give me my money back. He decided to exchange the mattress.

I was told that the delivery people would be there by 8 p.m. on that Friday. No one arrived! Surprise, Surprise! I called the store and was told that there wasn't even a delivery scheduled for me. I called the Miami store to speak to the "owner", but it was more than two weeks before I was able to speak to him! When I did get a hold of him, he told me that the manufacturer was supposed to be handling things, gave me their number and told me to call them. So I did! When I finally got a hold of the manufacturer, he said that the store was in error, that they should have told me that the 12" model was no longer available and that's why I got the 8" model. And there was nothing he could do! So, I called Miami store again and I told the owner that I was filing a lawsuit and that I would see him in court! Three hours later the delivery people showed up with another mattress! But when they got there, they said they couldn't exchange the mattress because my mattress was stained and they couldn't accept it! I was furious! I contacted my uncle, who is a corporate lawyer in Miami and told him to call the store! That's all it took!

I got a phone call the next day from the corporate store, the owner told me that he was having the manufacturer make a 12" model and that it would be ready in a week! A week passed, and still no mattress! Finally, after about 30 more calls and three weeks later, now about mid October 2008, I got my mattress! I was so excited! I measured it and "lo and behold", 12" thick! Hurray! Finally, I thought to myself, "vengeance is mine"! Wrong! The new mattress was even more uncomfortable than the one we had before, almost immediately the mattress began to break down and the back pain got even worse! And to make things even worse it still wasn't the same as the model we tried in the store! Can you say "bait and switch"! I had been "duped"!

It's now May 30, 2009, 6 months later and my husband and I are not sleeping through the night because we are in so much pain! Tossing, turning, waking every hour trying desperately to get comfortable! To no avail, we can't! And to make things worse, we can't even get a hold of anyone to complain to! The owner of the Miami store won't take my calls, the manufacturer says it's "out of his hands" and I'm out $1,500 bucks!

Mattress 1 One, you suck! And if I ever need another mattress, I'd rather go to a thrift store to buy a used mattress than come to you to buy a new mattress! 'Cause at least in the thrift store, I know what I'm gonna get!!!

Grrrrrrr!
