Dear Rip-Off Report.com

I was searching through your website and came across a letter about Moving Services located in North Miami Beach, FL. I, also, had a terrible experience with Moving Services, LLC.

6/4/04 - Called Moving Services 1-866-341-2982, 2221 ne 164th Street, Suite 358, North Miami Beach, fl 33160. Was impressed with customer service and received a quote of $1,068.75 for my move from Illinois to Nevada. It was only a bedroom set, two 27" TV's, and some boxes. I looked them up with the Better Business Bureau. They had a good rating, so I decided to go with them. I paid a check by phone for $374.06 for the deposit because they did not accept credit cards (Warning sign).

6/25/05 - Best Price Moving in Chicago, IL picked up my goods. I was informed that Moving Services is only a broker. All that day I was nervous that they were not showing to pick up my goods, but they finally arrived at 9:30 p.m.! At the time of pick-up, I paid the movers $300 in cash. I was informed that it would take two weeks to receive my goods in Nevada, that I should call in a few days to get a delivery date.

6/30/04 - Called to find out delivery date. No call back.

7/2/04 - Called to find out delivery date. No call back.

7/6/04, 7/7/04, 7/8/04 - called to find out delivery date. No call back.

7/9/04 - Voice mail was left on my phone from a driver, Ralphie. Said they will be at my home tomorrow, Saturday.

7/10/04 - No delivery arrived. Left numerous messages with Ralph, their driver at 818-383-9129. I thought you were coming today? Can we set up a new date? No call back.

7/12/04 - Called Best Price Moving - No call back.

7/13/04 - Called Moving Services. Talked to Kevin. Where's my stuff? Kevin said he will talk to Karen at Best Price Moving.

Later the same day, Called Karen at Best Price. Karen said delivery was at my home on Sunday, not Saturday. Was never informed of a delivery for SUNDAY.
Karen then told me that I will be charged a $500 re-delivery fee if I want my stuff. I was outraged!

7/15/04 - Ralphie, the driver finally calls back after seven messages I had left from days before. He sounded intoxicated. It was 9:00 at night! He wanted to know what I wanted, like he had no idea who I was. He acted very strange and unprofessional.

7/16/04 - Delivery day. I had a money order for the balance due. Driver informed me that I owed $2,295.50 more and that they will only accept cash or cashier's check! If I didn't pay them right then, they will keep my stuff and charge me another $500 re-delivery fee.
When I called Karen at Best Price moving, they stated i could use my credit card for Western Union only (since I didn't have cash on me at the time). She wanted me to Western Union money to Amile in Los Angeles, (818) 919-3687. I did not know who this person was and why wasn't it going to a business name?

Contacted Moving Services the same day. "Tracy" did not know who the listed owner was, Sharon Fachler. She said there was nothing she could do about it. I was livid.

Also, while delivery was taking place, the movers made a mess out of my home. I have cream carpets and they were black after they were done. There were dolly wheel marks all over the marble floor and carpet.

The furniture was ruined. .The movers broke the wood pieces and tried nailing it back together themselves - through the top of the wood! The mattress frame came with missing wheels. Floor lamp was bent and had to throw it away. Glasses were broke. Boxes were falling apart and the items were falling out because it was obvious they had been thrown around hard.

The contract I had stated disassembling and reassembling furniture was included in price. Items of furniture were not assembled.

I was just horrified by the whole process and the expense it had cost me to get my stuff. They were holding it hostage unless I paid the inflated price in full.

Moving Services is a complete rip-off. Not to mention their counter-part, Best Price Moving and Storage, Inc. 3912 W. McLean Street
Unit B
Chicago, IL 60647.

Have not received any reimbursement whatsoever. I am just totally sick about the whole experience.

These companies should be shut down!

#1 Consumer Suggestion

they've gone out of business and fled to Israel

Are you sure it was Best Prive Moving & Storage of Chicago? There is a company by that name, but there is also a "Best Price Movers" in Van Nuys, CA, that is a known scammer, and the phone number of Ralphie the driver is a cell phone from Van Nuys (plus they wanted the money sent to a Western Union in LA, not Chicago). If you have any other contact information for Best Price, double check which company it is before you do the following:

Start by calling 1-888-DOT-SAFT, this is the Dept of Transportation's complaint line. Best Price Moving got you in a classic moving scam. There's not much that can be done about Moving Services at this point, they've gone out of business and fled to Israel anyway. Then write to the BBB for Best Price. Call the Attorney General for your state and their's.

Here's the DOT's record for Best Price Movers in Van Nuys, for you to print out.
