Signed up for the Netspend card when doing TurboTax.  That's what I've done a couple times.  Get the card, get the refund.   This time is much different.  Received the card and the email that my refund was do on the same day.   I tried to activate the card when I got a response of "We're sorry there's something wrong with your Account!  Please contact customer service"

So, I call Customer Service and they inform me that I need to fax or email them a copy of my Social Security card, State ID and a utility bill.  I balk at having to do that.  I've never had to do this in the past with any financial instituition.

I inform them that my Social Security card was damaged and I'd have to get a replacement which would take weeks,  Rina (the CSR) told me I could get a statement from the Social Security Administration confirming my number.  So I did.  I emailed them my state ID, utility bill and the statement.   Now they are informing me that the previous CSR was wrong and I have to send in my Social Security card and nothing else was acceptable. I told them that since their CSR misspoke it was on them and to verify it.

I had sufficiently confirmed my ID when doing the Turbotax, and I also sufficiently verified my id with the SS office to obtain the statement of my SSN, and it has a Social Sec. stamp. Also told them that I have no had to go through with all this hoop jumping before.  I had also emailed a copy of W2 since I figured it was another piece of official paperwork with the SSN on it.  That is insufficient also.

I was also hung up on by 2 different CSRs, and also put on hold by the 'supervisor' for 30 minutes before I was hung up on.   I also asked them why their old FAQ page only states a state ID and a Social Security NUMBER is required, they couldn't answer me.   I also asked them why, if they can't confirm it is my social sec. number, then why do they ask it of me every time I contact them. At that point I was hung up on.

Now my account will be closed and who knows what will happen to my refund.  Attempted to contact my local IRS office and got an automated response that they do not do anything over phone and to call the IRS 800 number.   I called the IRS number and couldn't speak to a representative as none of the options I selected would lead me to a live person.
