On July 17 & 18 a representative of North American Van lines came to my home to pack us out and move us to Texas because my husband is Active Duty Military.

The packing personnel were very courteous and everything seemed to go fine. Upon receiving our household goods and unpacking our things we found several things damaged and broken. One of the major items is our computer.

Our computer was purchased in 1995 and was working great as I used it the morning the packers packed us to notify everyone back home that I would not be receiving emails for awhile. Upon unpacking it we discovered that the computer would not come on at all. I took it to the repair shop for estimates and was quoted $1100.00 because they had not only broken the casing but destroyed my mother board, which wiped out everything inside the computer. I made the claim with my local Military claims office and they insulted me by offering to give my family $139.64 to replace my computer because of the age.

I contacted North American Van Lines in Oklahoma, which is where the move originated from to let them know that I did not appreciate them dropping my computer and busting the outer casing and destroyed the "mother board" which is the guts of the computer. They also destroyed my keyboard which I am not as concerned about as all the information I lost, programs destroyed and the fact I no longer have a computer.

I have to use my Son's lap top in order to do anything on the web. I have tried reasoning with the Military and North American Van Lines about them replacing my computer.

I hope that consumers will be aware that North American Van Lines does not stand behind their moves and when they are contracted by the Military they know that the Army will only insist they pay a very minimal amount for damaged or lost items.

When we have to make another move I will insist that North American not be the carrier for us and I will make sure that as many people as I can possibly come in contact with request they not be used either. I should have my computer replaced with a working computer since mine was working the day they dropped it, regardless of the age.

EDitor's Opinion ..Marsha, don't try to flim-flam some story

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, December 25, 2002

Marsha, Marsha, Marsha,

The trouble is, you are too far down on the totem pole to know all about the backroom deals we have uncovered in our investigations between many of the major contractors and the Joint Personnel Property Shipping Office, or JPPSO, as it is properly identified.

Your error is a bit Freudian, however, the Military Transportation Office IS part of North American Van Lines and has liaison responsibilities. Coincidentally, it is also the office that has the responsibility to ensure that as many complaints as possible never get fully processed so that they can keep their good rating and still be able to ripoff service personnel.

This occurs in a myriad of ways. One way that has most recently been discovered out of Fort Belvoir, Virginia; they just get the investigation of complaint to get "pigeon-holed" and pass the statute of limitations for any negative repercussions to distill. Many people are involved in this scam.

Don't you dare come on this site and try to flim-flam some story, of which you have not the slightest notion.

NORTH AMERICAN VAN LINES rip off FORT WAYNE INDIANA

AUTHOR: Marsha - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 24, 2002

After being in the household division for years I can accurately say this complaint against NORTH AMERICAN VAN LINES is WRONG!

It is unfortunate MS. Cindy's computer got broken (packing error), but the fact is her complaint is misdirected. Her complaint is with the Military Transportation Office. It is THEY who decide what the damageis are and what the $ claim is. In turn they inform the carrier - North American - how much has to paid. North American does not dispute the military claims.

The discrepancy lies between the computer repair estimate and what the T.O. thinks it's real value is.
