So I kept seeing commercials that nTelos was buying out contracts for people who wanted to switch over. I figured I might as well do it because I would save some money and I wouldn't have to pay to cancel. So I switched from Verizon to nTelos thinking that my cancellation fees would be paid for because that's what was advertised.

I get my final bill from Verizon not sweating it because as nTelos advertised, they were going to pay my cancellation fees. Then I get a bill from nTelos and I notice that I have a credit and the termination fees that should have gone to Verizon were credited to my nTelos bill.

Immediately, I called nTelos customer service because I was confused and needed someone to explain what was going on. The customer service rep told me that the cancellation fees were credited to my account which meant I would not pay a phone bill this month and I would have a discounted bill next month because of the credit for the early termination fees.

So I asked her flat out, "So I still have to pay the cancellation fees for Verizon?" and she plainly stated "Yes." WTF! The whole promotion was based on someone switching to their phone company and them paying the cancellation fees that the person incurred BECAUSE they switched! Why would they put the termination fee credit on my bill for nTelos when Verizon is the company that needed the termination fee paid? So now I owe Verizon over $400 and that number grows every month because Verizon charges a late fee.

I can't believe I went through all of that thinking I would not have to pay the cancellation fees and still have to! This is truly false advertising and my contact with customer service did nothing to solve the problem. No one I spoke to told me that the termination fees would be credited to my nTelos bill. That doesn't even make sense! Now I'm stuck with this dishonest company for 2 more years. Screw you nTelos!

in a sense

In a sense they did. They credited your account the fee amount therefore giving you a month and a half of free service where in turn you are suppose to pay the other carrier since you do not have to pay your current one.

Thanks for the suggestion but....

I don't have $400 just laying around to pay off a cell phone company I wasn't satisfied with. I don't know how much you think I've saved, but it wasn't enough to pay off the fees that they stated they would pay.

Well then why don't you take the money you saved on skipping a month's cell bill and the half bill next month and pay verizon?
