OAN ripoff! They let anyone open an account and charge it to you - fraudulently! Marina California

I recieved a bill from OAN for $16.15 for residential voice mail, and I was puzzled because I have had voicemail with SBC since I had the phone connected. After 3 hours of run around, I discovered that an ex roomate set up the account and had it billed to my telephone.

She was not living with me at the time she set up the account. (Let me add this roommate has done numerous other things also.) I was assigned the roomate through work, and had no choice. She has been a night mare.

Anyway when I called OAN, (who by the way will not reveal a physical address,) they basically said anyone could open an account with them and charge it to anyone's number, that they were protected by law, and tough luck to me. This woman did not have her name on my phone nor did she live at my address when she opened the account. They don't understand why I have a problem with this.

I think this company should be closed down. I am sure I am not the only person they have done this to. With identity theft as rampant as it is, they should verify a person has a phone before they bill them for service.
