We purchased a lap top july of 2005. We purchased a warranty for the lap top and we told by Jeremy H. (an employee of office depot) that it was a 5 year . we paid 179.99. the lap top crashed feb. of 2007. We went online to obtain the warranty and were told it EXPIRED!!! . We called office Depot and were told it was a 2 yr waranty and the first year overlapped!!! We spoke to the store manager and they said there was nothing they could do!!! I cant believe Office Depot would let their EMPLOYEES LIE and do nothing about it. Now we are out a very expensive lap top.PLEASE DO NOT BUY THEIR WARRANTIES.THEY ARE LIARS!!!! You'll be out an expensive item. We were told the warranty covered everthing from thieft to being dropped . Even if it was our fault!

5 year laptop warranty?

AUTHOR: Zack - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, April 03, 2009

What company would sell a 5 year warranty on something that only has an average life of a couple of years? I've had many cases where customers hear what they want to hear, and that exactly what happened here. I've never seen a company sell a warranty for that long on a notebook, and if they did it would certainly cost more than that.

First off, don't have rediculous expectations, and second if you doubt anything... read. When you purchase a warranty you get a brochure explaining the length of warranty and features, and when you register a warranty you see it again. You also have a phone number and web address for the warranty company. If you need info, go get it.

Office Depot Extended Warranties

AUTHOR: Ldy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, February 15, 2009

I bought an HP printer from Office Depot in Lexington SC I was told by the sales person that OD would honor my warranty no matter how many times the tears up for any reason it would be replaced with a years time. I had the printer for 3 days and it stopped working I called OD I talked to tech guy and we walked through did trouble shooting and he told me to bring it back to the store they would replace it free of charge. I did got a new printer well the problem was it only replaced the printer Once that was it. (But if you buy the 3 year extended warranty from HP they will replace your printer as many times as it breaks. Just as long as it is withing the 3 years.)

I did not found out that the OD warranty was no good until they did a refund on the 1st printer I purchased and they had to ring the second one up and the lady asked me if I wanted the extended warranty with the printer I told her no I had already purchased the warranty with the other printer well it expired with this printer that I am getting for free it only replaces the printer once. I was mad after I had paid xxx amount of dollars for the warranty I told the store manager why didn't the sales person tell me all this I asked him and he told they would he told me no OD does not operate like this and I am sorry you were given the wrong information. I said well HP does well I don't know what HP does I said I do I am going through them to buy this warranty he said that's fine go ahead but they will only replace your printer once I said and you are lying because I called them before I came over here. OD don't care so I don't shop with them I go online and purchase things from the manufacture and buy my warranties from manufacture OD you are a big rip off.

Unfortunate Mishaps

AUTHOR: Retailemployee - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 02, 2009

As an associate for the company it is unfortunate that I have seen similar instances happen where the customer is under the impression that the warranty starts after the manufacturers. Office Depot's warrantys can be confusing to understand even to some associates especially if they have only been employed for less than a year or not had proper training at a training store. All computer warranties from Office Depot have 24/7/365 Tech support and cover more than the manufacturers. While not all of them cover accidental they do all cover every day wear and tear which the manufacturer does not. The manufacturer warranties only cover what could have gone wrong in the manufcacturing process, so they only warranty their workmanship which most of the time is 60 days parts and labor and the remainder of the year is just parts and the consumer must pay for shipping and handling and the expensive labor; all of which office depot covers with their wrap around service.

Even if the warranty is expired it is renewable, and transferable. Again it is unfortunate that not all of our employees know the ins and outs as well as they should. It should never be about getting the sale, its about taking care of the customer and getting them what they need.

No

AUTHOR: Bill - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, February 01, 2009

No, employees are not told to lie about the warranties. Where are you getting that? Sure, maybe one employee did lie to you (unfortunately), but that doesn't mean that Office Depot tells us to lie about warranties to make sales...

Sounds fishy

AUTHOR: Brent - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, June 21, 2008

As an employee in Colorado (and under the same DM's as the store you went to), I can assure you we are not told to lie. Anyone that's been there for a decent amount of time knows that the basic plans do not cover accidental damage or screen damage. Without knowing the price of your laptop or specific details I couldn't be sure what your specific circumstance is; however, I've dealt with the warranty (WACA) and they are incredibly good dealing with problems. Did you even call the number for the warranty company?

#4 UPDATE Employee

just a follow up on office depot's scam reports.

AUTHOR: Victor - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 23, 2008

i am an office depot employee. i am sorry to report that office depot does use some tricks to gain extra sales/money.

1. Product protection plan(PPP's) it does not cover everything, unless u buy the accidental coverage. this cost about $230- $300 depending on how much the computer cost. most employees will not offer the accidental one because the price of it will basicly pay for a new computer itself. so to close the sale and make at least some profit the employee only offers the minimum 2 year protection plan which only covers hardware/internal malfunctions.

Now it's not the emloyees fault. they are told to do this. If their store doesn't make the weeks goal for PPP's sold, they could be on the chopping block for write ups/disiplinary actions. Even the managers are under the pressure from the head offices. So to avoid any conflict with the head offices employees will promiss u the moon and stars that your product is covered, even if it means scaming you.

2. Rebates- So far i have never had a problem getting them back from office depot. but, at meeting last october, i was informed by a store manager that the company does pray on rebates for making more money. office deopt does mail in rebates hoping the consumer forgets about filling and sending them in, or hopes it gets lost in the mail. to avoid these problems make sure u fill them out asap, neat and clear to read, and all the paer work they tell you to mail in. i have had no problems so far and got them back within 6-8 weeks.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

Seems sketchy

AUTHOR: Matt - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 18, 2008

Odds are the manager you spoke to didn't want to deal with you. Their warranties are a minimum of 2 years for laptops. If you made the calls to the service people, they should have the records, I suggest you call up another store, explain your situation, and get a resolution. If you bought in July 05 and contacted in February 07 (when it crashed) you should be good to go.

If you can't get any resolution (though I think if you display a friendly, though concerned attitude you should get some help) ask for the contact information of someone higher, maybe a District Manager, and get the ball rolling.

Good Luck.
