i had been takong my dog to Petsmart's doggie day camp for about one and a half years now with no issues. So Wednesday 7-23-14 I dropped my dog off as normal around 830am and thought all was good, but around 10am I got a call saying that my dog had bitten another dog and that dog needed to be taken to Petsmart's in house vet, I said alright and had my girlfriend head to the store to deal with it.

So she got to the store to see what was going on, she went back to the pets hotel area and was met with ignorance, she was told she would have to pay somehwere between $200-$500 for the pther dogs stitches. She was told that the manager and an employee reviewed a video tape of the incident and we were legally responsible. the manager then insisted my girl friend sign a blank promissory to cover the damages. so she asked for the dog another time and was told that she could not have the dog until she signed the promissory, she got mad and came to pick me up from work to assist her in dealing with this.

We arrived back about 15-20 minutes later, and I took over, again asking for my dog, yet again I was told to sign a blank promissory. I laughed and said no I just need my dog, and that I will pay for anything that my dog has done, I just need to see this video, a hurt animal or even a vet bill. None of which they could show me claiming that it was against petsmart policy, but that they had reviewed it and that we should trust them that my dog was in the wrong. I asked to speak to the general manager and they said that they weren't in today and gave me a 1-800 number that was supposedly for a district manager which it wasn't. So after arguing about signing the promissory I started to call the police and the employees folded on there bluff gave me my dog and said they would just take the promissory and send it to collections.

I have sinice called and written many times with no results no call back no email no nothing. I have tried over and over again now I have to worry about them forging my signature on this blank promissory. What the hell!

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Yeah there's definitely something wrong there.

AUTHOR: Kyle - (USA)

Hi, I used to work in a petsmart petshotel for 2 years in Nevada.

We had a few cases, 4 or 5 or so I think, where a dog had bitten another dog in daycamp and the owner of the aggressor was asked to pay the bill. It was pretty standard and the video was usually kept as evidence.

My manager was pretty sketchy and usually did anything to get more money, but he always showed the video to both petparents should they ask. I always thought it was legally required, honestly.

Also in our worst case, part of a dog's ear was bitten and had bleeding scratches around his neck. The bill was about $170 for all that... Unless your dog absolutely mauled another dog in camp to near death or something, it should be NOWHERE near the total you posted, that's absolutely rediculous. The promisary note is absolutely not okay either, annd usually they're used as a last-resort payment option, not a first choice, which makes me very suspicious of that petshotel manager.

Banfield is PetSmart's inhouse vet (The one that charged you the bill.) and I've had a few issues with them while working there, as well as hearing a few horror stories. The Petshotel is required to bring the injured dog to banfield so there's not really any way around it, we were always mandated by policy even if we ourselves distrusted Banfield heavily.

As someone who's seen how these cases are SUPPOSED to go, this whole thing is incredibly sketchy. If you still think it's worth it, I'd contact their HR department directly. I used to have the number from them as an employee but I don't anymore unfortunately, sorry.

Best of luck to you!
