Booked a flight from Spokane, WA to Burbank,CA. I decided to relocate to Spokane and would not need my ticket anymore. I was going to drive down with truck and trailer to bring belongings back and vehicle. This is the reason why I don't need to fly. I called southwest and told me Iam not eligible for a refund cause I purchased the ticket at a discount on the wanna get away option. I was told its non refundable and that I would be issued a credit good for one year. I said what if I don't fly within the year what happens to my money, she said it cancels and I lose out on my $162. It's 9-3-15 and my flight is not until 9-15-15 which I think is more then enough time to cancel. It's bad enough the airlines are getting together and raising and lowering prices whenever they feel they can make more money. I just don't think it's right that they keep my money and Iam forced to fly somewhere when I don't need to what a rip!!!! Never using southwest again and would recommend to anyone using this not use southwest either. They will take your money regardless of your situation. A big company such as southwest stealing my money and forcing me to fly for $162 refund is beyond me.

Exactly my point with the fine print just another way for the airline to stick it to the public with their hard earned money. I don't know what you mean by mysterious investigation its a fact, and it's only a matter of time. I thought you knew everything, should not be commenting if you don't know the facts. I was given the option to change flight due to weather delay, so not sure how heat is bothering me as I stated ticket was from Spokane to Burbank where it is in the cool 60's. Not to hot if you ask me pretty nice actually. But I'm sure you knew that already. I'm sure where you are in Texas it's pretty exciting as well, with all the teen pregnancy and meth heads, oh and can't forget about the beautiful weather you have out there. I'm sure the locusts keep you entertained at night. Never heard of spirit airlines but I'm sure they would give a refund. You never responded with your name or Id or whatever southwest has you under. I would like to know if this is how customer service is handled at southwest. Don't be scared I'm sure your a big boy and can handle it. I have nothing else better to do, according to you so please respond to this report!!!

Must be the heat...

AUTHOR: Robert - (USA)

POSTED: Sunday, September 06, 2015

The heat must be getting to you, as you really need to stop taking everything so personally.

Your original complaint is that you couldn't get your money back.  This is because you FAILED to read the terms.  Sorry if you are taking it personal but that is just the facts.   Sorry if you don't like it, but I am not making these terms up.  As I said you are more than free to start up your own airline with any terms you want.

You go off on how they are gouging people charging $100 one day and $400 the next.  Well that may be so, but that is NOT your situation so has nothing to do with your claims.  You say that they take advantage of people in "emergency" situations.  But again you had bought your ticket before 9/3 and your flight isn't even until 9/15.  People that have an "emergency" don't book a couple of weeks(at least) in advance, they would be booking a day or two before.  So again not your situation.

By the way when I said the "Spirit Model", I should have realized that you are sheltered out in Lancaster you had no idea there are other airlines.  So just so you know I was refering to Spirit Airlines.

I will not be taking any more personal requests on this...good luck in your quest.  The winter and cooler weather is just around the corner.

Are you an employee of southwest or just some kind of intern? Exactly my point about the fine print. That's why it is in fine print so people can run into the same situation I'm in. I'm glad fbi looking into the price gouging of southwest and other airlines, one day a ticket can be $100 and next day up to $400. We are in America how is that fair to anyone that needs to book a flight and has to cancel and can't get a refund on there hard earned money? What kind of employees does southwest hire? People to run their sites and make jokes and try to make themselves better then the other person on the other end? I'm complaining about the airlines and their methods and I feel like you are attacking me personally. Respond to this report with your name so I can make another complaint about how their employees treat customers. Making a comment on me flying in a spirit model? What's next me flying on a plane and hoping I crash and burn? Respond to this!!!

Since you requested...

AUTHOR: Robert - (USA)

Since you so nicely requested for me to respond I will.

The fact is that before you purchase your tickets you are required to say that you agree to the fare rules and conditions.  Your failure to read the rules is not the fault of the airline, it is the fault of one person..YOU.  If you read them and they weren't clear, you should not have said you agreed to them.  Sorry, but that is just the way it is, and not just with booking plane tickets, this applies ANYTIME you purchase or sign anything.  The "fine print" as you will call it is there for a reason.

Also, it is interesting how you bring in some mysterious "investigation" to try and prove your point.  Well guess what, there is always some government agency investigating some company or industry for something.  After all, our tax money has to be spent somewhere right?  The "FBI Investigation" is actually a DOJ request of the major airlines because they THINK that the airlines are working together to keep airfares higher than they need to be, because they are doing things such as reducing flights.  Of course never mind that these agenices are the same agencies that have approved some of the biggest airline mergers in history in the last couple of years.  But even so this request has NOTHING to do with your complaint about not being able to get your money back.

By the way, had you actually read that the ticket was non-refundable what would you have done?  Would you have still bought the ticket?  Would you have bought the higher fare ticket with less restrictions? Would you have just said forget it?  Because one thing you would not have done is go to another airline because they have the same rules.

So good luck in your beliefs and how you THINK the world should work.  Perhaps with all of your ideas you should go and startup a new airline with what you think are totally fair rules.  Might I suggest looking at the Spirit Model(oh and just in case you don't get it..that is 100% sarcastic).

Since southwest is allegedly one of the best, they should make the refund policy more clear to the people that don't fly. I have flown 2 times in the past 15 years. When I purchased ticket I did not see anything about refund policy. I don't have to have a good reason, if I'm not going to use ticket I should receive a refund. I don't plan on flying so why would I need it credited for a year? And after it expires Im out of my money? That doesn't seem fair. No wonder FBI is investigating the airlines. They gouge America for their hard earned money in emergency situations and forced to pay high prices, and when you find a cheap flight and don't need it, the airline still forces it on you. You agreed to it...

AUTHOR: Robert - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, September 03, 2015

When you purchased your ticket you agreed to the Terms and Conditions of the ticket.  Including the fact that your fare is NON-REFUNDABLE.  It wasn't "Non-Refundable...well unless you come up with a very good reason".  It is "Non-Refundable" under any circumstance.

This is STANDARD with EVERY airline in the marketplace.  If you purchase a discounted fare ticket you are subject to restrictions.  Had you wanted the option to get a full refund you would have had to purchase a higher priced ticket(usually 2-3 times the discounted fare).

Oh and one other thing.  Southwest actually has one of the best policies.  Had you purchased your ticket with another airline, in addition to giving you only a credit, and making you use it within a year.  They would have charged you a "Cancellation Fee" that sometimes is as much as the ticket itself.  With Southwest you still have a full credit for what you paid.

As for anyone not using Southwest because you don't like this policy...well they are one of the top airlines in the US for customer satisfaction for many reasons.  Policies like the no cancellation fees is one of them.
