I purchased a laptop for 500 dollars on Ebay last year. I thought it would be a good thing to have a warranty on it, so took advantage of Squaretrade to the tune of 80 more dollars. The parts and labor were supposed to be completely covered for 3 years. The cooling fans on the back of the unit were failing a few months after having the unit. I called Squaretrade and was told that it was normal wear and tear and wasn't covered. I'm a PC tech. I know what normal wear and tear is. Normal wear and tear would be a broken key, failed HDD, battery that doesnt take a charge after a few years, not cooling fans. I was totally screwed by Squaretrade. I hope they choke on my 80 dollars.
So under no circumstances should you buy a warranty through Squaretrade. Take that 80 dollars and buy dog food with it. It will be well better spent.

Jill,
The last two sentences of your rebuttal are contradictory: "Fan maintenance and cleaning is not covered by a SquareTrade warranty because our product differs a maintenance/service contract. We'll cover you when/if the product fails though, guaranteed". Which one is it? Do you consider the fans maintenance or cover it when they fail? Do they need to COMPLETELY fail before you will replace them? There is too much confusion and ambiguity and it feels like you are simply trying to shirk the consumer. The laptop is long gone now, but the issue still stands.
The first paragraph sounds like a stock copy and paste you put into every response

We wish we could approve every claim, but unfortunately there are some times when we can't. This was one of those times. Fan maintenance and cleaning is not covered by a SquareTrade warranty because our product differs a maintenance/service contract. We'll cover you when/if the product fails though, guaranteed.
