Just like the rest, bought a brand new ($7000) unit in 12/2009. It now (3yrs later) needs a coil. It's 3 years old! All totaled, this repair is going to cost me $2000. Not acceptable.

Trane's response - So sorry, but there's a number of reasons why this could have happened, and btw, we have an extended warranty that you could/could have purchased to make it all better. Let me tell ya, if I did purchase the warranty I'd be pissed off just the same if within 3 years my "No one can stop a Trane" blew a coil. Relieved, yes. Happy, no. I'm not willing to accept the inconvenience of broken equipment, loss of vacation days, uncomfortable temperatures, paying for service calls, scheduling and waiting for people.

Does anyone at Trane research what's going on with their systems? When thousands of people line up and complain about a single solitary part it's time for them to pay attention. There's a good chance it's defective. Don't insult the intelligence and experience that people are having. It is otherwise very irresponsible for a company like Trane to ignore this and depend on the "you should have purchased an extended warranty" BS. It is amazing how low the bar is when you fall back on a BS warranty excuse. As if you know you produced crap (for whatever reason), and you know you can pass the buck on to the HVAC contractors (hell, they stand to make a fortune in labor costs), only to stiff the consumer.

It's a total ripoff and it's so d**n obvious.

btw - 'my' coil will be here in 8-12 days. It has only been 115 degrees here for the last week. Just add more insult to my injury.

The system is maintained once per year as recommended. Nothing turned up on any of the previous yearly check-ups (as one should expect with a brand new unit). Too many people are in the same boat for this to be as random as Trane professes it to be. It's like clockwork.

Also, to clear things up, I noticed the title of my report has North Carolina. I used what I thought was Trane's HQ. I'm located in AZ.

How many routine maintenance service calls have been performed since you purchased the unit?
